It all started with me going to hostel for the first time. The thought of living independently excited me a lot. I could sense freedom. But little did I know that life has more surprises for me.
I made two good friends and was enjoying life with them. But it felt that I need someone whom I could call my best friend.
One day, I woke up next to a black cat. I got scared and started crying. But no one came to rescue me. I tried to run away and I couldn't. The cat was staring at me. I didn't know what to do. And that wasn't enough. She suddenly turned into a girl in a black dress, with long nails and much longer hair.
I almost had a heart attack. She calmed me down and all I could do was my mantras. She told me that she used to live in the same room years ago but she was in depression and committed suicide because she couldn't make out what to do with her life. She had no family and no friends to take care of her. And since then she is in search of one. She said that she has been noticing me ever since I am here and sees the one she is in need of.
I was still doing my mantras while listening to her. She promised to always stay by my side,no matter what.
No one could see her but me. We had a lot of fun together. Now I didn't need anyone else. I shared every secret of my life with her. People used to think that how come I always talk to a cat.
I told everything to my parents one day. They thought I am mad and didn't believe me so I made them meet her. I could understand their reaction but then they supported our friendship. They told me that she will have to go back to her own world for her betterment. Neither do I nor her wanted her to leave but my parents helped us to get through everything.
Now that I am 80, I tell this story to my grandchildren. No one believes me completely but I can still say that she has been my best friend ever.
