Honor Killing

Honor killing is still prevalent in India society. Especially in the north India regions Punjab western up, Haryana etc. Honor killing as the name suggests is killing for the honor of the family just because they think that the particular person has done something against the norms and reputation of the family. Such as marrying someone who belongs to other caste or getting into relationship. Though we say we live in post modernism but still relationship is not acceptable in our society people see it as an taboo which is completely wrong as the person is mature enough and capable enough to make decisions and when family comes to about it they should discuss it with their child recently a case happened in Rajasthan where a father slit his daughters throat only because she was having an affair. People need to understand its ok to have feelings for someone because feelings do not see the caste or religion of a person nor does anyone know when they fall in love. Honor killing also occurs due to extra marital affair. Even if someone has extra marital affair they should follow a proper procedure and legalized structure. Communicating with families and having a flexible thinking is a must required thing. Sometimes families are so stubborn regarding their decisions. Most of the cases are seen in rajputs family and jaat family. Honor killing are directed mostly against women and girl. It can be caused due to unacceptable dressing manner in a family or society, wanting to terminate an arrange marriage or marrying by choice. Women and girls are killed at a much higher rate than men.

Recently, there has been a spate of honor killings in the country and this has led the government to decide what laws should be put in place to stop this terrible crime.Also more and more awareness is being spread regarding it. Now, there are various reasons why people or family members decide to kill the daughter in the name of preserving their family honor. The most obvious reason for this practice to continue in India, though, at a much faster and almost daily basis, is because of the fact that the caste system continues to be at its inflexible best and also because people from the rural areas refuse to change their attitude to marriage.Now the question comes what can we do to prevent such evil practice? Well firstly the parents should accept their children's wishes regarding marriage as it is they who have to lead a life with their life partners and if they are not satisfied with their life partner then they will lead a horrible married life which might even end in suicide. Secondly more strict laws should be made and no pardon should be granted because no human gets the right to write down the death sentences of innocent fellow humans.
