The turn of a century did not limit itself just to technological advancements and political reforms. But what it saw was a way how things would end. Don't worry we aren't talking about the ideal “doomsday” where the world ends. But stories in every aspect of our entertainment centers.

As we pass days after days..what we see is a change of liking, a liking that has turned away from the “they lived happily ever after” to a miserable separation. More and more books and movies are popularised among the youth which have endings which are tough to deal with. No one believes that Cinderella could really find her Prince charming.

The rapid unprecedented affinity towards these is because of what the demographic would prefer. Given they are most, if not all predominantly love struck, heart broken pre teens and or young adults.

Also, we all want relatable characters and a story that seems exactly like our own. And consideringthe environment that we grow up in.. I mean we have cheating politicians, unhappy marriages, killings and suicides.. Rising competition and literally nobody with the time to hear our problems..so eventually that gives in too unhappy endings seeming more realistic than happy ones.

Not to mention that at times people might lean towards the fact that a happy ending might never proliferate into their lives and therefore seeing a movie or reading a book along the same lines would have the opposite effect than intended meaning I might end up unhappier while watching a happy movie because I know that such an ending for me is not possible and on the other hand... I might end up happier watching an unhappy movie because I'll be grateful for my own better (in perspective) life….

Similarities might also play a part. As said earlier as a reader or a viewer I would like to watch/read about a play/movie where I would relate to the protagonist, it's easy to imagine and even more easier to be in the moment as described by the author or screenwriter. It is always simpler to relate to bad things happening in life and when we go through stuff like this we need sympathy by and large this also means we are more likely to give sympathy in case any other is suffering due to which we feel a sort of fondness for a sadder ending.

There's also this mindset that sadder movies or rather what would be more apt to say is the non happy ending movies tend to be more mature and meant for a mature audience and this kind of thinking is basically prevalent in again teens.. So it's a this becomes a trend which is nothing more than a fancy way ofshowing up one another.

The only other thing is.. Its something to cry on. We are always so stressed because of the way the world works these days from 8am to 2pm we have our schedules planned andwe don't even have time to let ourselves relax.Being happy is something that is thrust onto us and at the same time not something we can handle with all this work.. So as a result we eqtch sad movies to let go and to cry upon.. Comforting ourselves. Plus sadness has become universal... Happiness tho is only temporary but nevertheless very very Necessary!
