Breaking Gender Stereotypes: Men, Cry Too!

Men are considered as 'less emotional' when compared to the other genders, they are apparently the rock in the middle of a storm, charmingly cool no matter what the circumstances, but I strongly believe men get emotional too. Yeah surely a lot has been said and done and debated in this regard already, but some things need reinforcements to prevent the borders of safety from falling down. So does this matter.

The Gospel writers since the Old Testament did not feel that tears were a threat to either manhood or Godhood of Christ and even recorded "Jesus Wept". Therefore, drawing inspiration from this emotional display, the church thinkers considered "tears" as a gift to mankind.

No one wants to share a good cry like they want to share a good laugh. No one has ever told me that it HAS to be this way. Why is it that laughter is lauded and tears are shameful? I strongly believe it is 'pride'; a lie that a real man will only allow himself to express happy emotions. Joy is a public emotion whereas sorrow is a private one. Or so it is treated. One good enough reason to rejoice and you might as well celebrate it with the entire neighbourhood. But when in sorrow, it is good to laugh together but equally good, maybe even better, to cry together.

It's unhealthy to keep one's own feelings bottled up and kept suppressed. Emotions and expressions and two sides of the same book. One is incomplete without the other. And every human being is a boulevard of emotions.

Small boys are reprimanded for crying like girls. Like… seriously? You never cried when you felt sorrow and despair? You hit and shout at a child and expect him to keep and straight face? What even are you? It is my kind and humble request to every male individual reading this, please do not think that if you express your emotions you will be considered a crybaby, or seem ‘less manly’ or all those egotistical notions that when belittled will hurt your “manly pride”. What even is this? Something you brewed up just to soothe that jab at your ego that you cannot live without?

If you really care about being all your patriarchal dominance, first start acting like a real human. Because if anything, women would take emotional human beings over emotionless robots any day.

Because real men may laugh, but real men cry too.

So, drop your façade of an emotionless freak and start acting human, because it is high time you look at the dropping number of human souls and the rising number of inhuman devils.
