In school, most of us wrote an essay along the lines 'phone, computer, and the internet — blessing or a curse'? We may have written 3 full pages then, but can we still attest to it even today?

I'll always say social media is a tool that helps us if we know how to use it as a tool. There are two kinds of people, successful and unsuccessful, both kinds of people are ordinary, but one kind wastes their time looking at and reading useless information while the other at the same time is using social media as a resource. Technology isn't really a distraction, I'll actually be bolder and say nothing can be a distraction, unless, you are confused about what really matters.

You could be focused and working 16 hours a day but at the same time, you could be distracted and will actually be wasting your energy in something that really doesn't matter. Social media is a very dominant part of our lives. Today we don't just use social media for entertainment, we use it to be more aware, we teach and learn through social media and many of us work through social media, that too on a large scale. Be it getting business related updates or marketing the business on social media, many online businesses these days have been using social media as a business platform.

What one really needs to figure out is what really matters, many students uninstall their social media apps before an exam but end up re-installing them in a few days during the ongoing exam. On the other hand, there are some students who will use social media for their study purposes without getting distracted by any kind of noise. Take Sparknotes for example, they realise most students who use their website, use Instagram as well, so now they speak the student’s language and have made memes for many important literary texts. So many students have reported that this new method of studying is proving to be very helpful since it is entertaining as well as knowledgeable.

We need to remember that time is limited, it is the most important resource we have, so whether we use it or waste it will determine what we make of ourselves. So social media can't really be a distraction for us unless we allow it to, so the answer to does social media connects or distracts us from what really matters depend upon if we use it as a resourceful tool or a means to fight boredom in any manner.
