2015 was the year when I had to take big-ticket decisions career wise. That was the year I graduated from college.Sincemy finals years in school, I started cultivating an interest in advertisements which was proceeded by a deathlesscuriosity. But advertisingwas like that beautiful dress in the shop window which you absolutely adore but unsure if it's worthwhile to pay for it. So what I needed was a pinch of conviction which came in the form of this Titan Raga ad campaign "Her life her choices" featuring Katrina Kaif which released this year.
I wouldn't say this is one of the best ads of all times, nor that it was of that year. But the fact that itnon-rebelliously underlinesthe common societal pressures under which a woman gets married, makes the 46-second spotworth remembering. It ends with a captivating question-When is the right time to get married? and an equally radicalanswer"when you find the one who deserves your time". Moreover, the nonchalant internal monologue and the soft underlying theme make it a satisfying watch.
Titan Raga adshave shownclassic examples of conveying a messagewith subtletyand finesse. There was another Titan Raga TVC featuring Nimrat Kaur which was corresponding to the same brand message "Her life her choices". It is a story of ex-lovers meeting at the airport and how the girl chooses her career over a partner. It managed to create quite a stir.Whereas this ad did not get the recognition it deserved. Perhaps because there is nothing in the entire video except the end title that gives an impression that it is a commercial of a watch brand and that did not help brand recall
In one of those in-class sessions in college when we get to play ads of our choice, I played this ad and received judgmentalcomments like "who would like this one?". Maybe because it is not an extraordinary piece of work. The beauty is in its simple narrative. My old school and make-believe judgment might trigger a laugh or two, but I shall not stop believing that marriage is a lifetime achievement where you are awarded your soulmate. That is the very reason this ad struck the right chord with me and many other girls alike. There are great ads and then there is this ad which is very close to my heart because it shaped my dreams and priorities.
