Human freedom demands respect, human beings demand dignity and Human rights ask for recognition. Indian freedom was achieved after the sacrifice of lot many people. Innocents were killed as herd of animal. One of such incidents was the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. It was the day of Baisakhi, the new year of Sikh people had gathered in Jallianwala Bagh, a public garden which was surrounded by high walls on all sides and five small entrances. It was 13 April 1999, Rowlett act had been passed but only a few people knew about it. It had put a ban on all the processions and public meetings of four or more persons.

Thousands of Sikhs,Muslims and Hindus had gathered there for a peaceful meeting.General o dyer got this news of such a public meeting be held through detectives in crowd in plain clothes, heard the news word by mouth. General o dyer assembles the group of 90 Gurkha,Balochi and Rajput soldiers from Gurkha rifles, Sikh and Singh Raipur rifles. 50 were armed ones. General O dyer and Irving did nothing to stop such meeting and he did not try for a peaceful dispersion of the crowd . He had also brought with him cars with machine guns which werestationed outside the garden as a backup. Dyer without any previous explanation or warning blocked and sealed the exit of the garden. He had later explained that this act was not to disperse the meeting but to punish the Indians for their disobedience. Dyer ordered his soldiers to shoot at the densestpart of the crowd. There was no break . the firing ceased after ten minutes and ceasefire was called only when the ammunitions were exhausted. People died ; not only by direct shooting but also by stampede near gates, some jumped into the only well in the Bagh. Wounded people were not removed as a curfew was declared and many more died that night.

The place is still preserved as a beacon of Indian martyrs. A memorial has been also built by an NGO for such a heavenly place is saturated with the blood of non violent Indian sons who gave up their life for a cause. The walls and the Wells of martyrsare also preserved. Later, people’s power threw off British Raj and such acts like the Rowlett act. The win, the victory and the history of freedom of humanity is known to all.
