Everyone has a habit of delaying or postponing their work. This is called procrastination. People procrastinate either because they just don’t want to do the task or do not have the confidence in themselves to complete the task.

If people are not interested in completing the work, then they should try to think of the outcomes of postponing the task, and what would happen if it is completed in advance.

Lack of self-confidence is another reason for procrastination. If people don’t know how to do that job, or just believe they won’t do a good job, they end up procrastinating. This is a serious problem, because many people, especially in the present generation seem to lack self-confidence. In this case, remember your goals and work towards it. Do not think of the result, first focus on completing the task at hand.

Another reason why people delay is that, they feel there is a lot of time to get it completed. Then they do it the last minute. This also, is an incorrect practise and causes our stress and anxiety to build up. Under such conditions, the task may not be completed as per the requirement.

People often get tempted by momentary pleasures and end up procrastinating. It is in human nature to do so. At such times, self-control is very important.

It is important to get rid of the habit of procrastination. Imagine what chaos that would follow, if the Sun doesn’t rise when it has to. The problems due to procrastination may not be a huge at times, but it can land the procrastinator into trouble, at some point of time.

Some ways to stop procrastinating:

Have self-belief. Don’t think that you are not capable. Just get started. If you start with a positive attitude, you will definitely do well.

If distractions are the reasons for procrastination, put all of them aside, isolate yourself from those distractions and then start working on your task.

Don’t be attracted to momentary pleasures. Award yourself after completing your task. Not only will be happy that you completed your task on time, but also happy about the reward.

If you have a huge task at hand, then divide the task into smaller ones and decide when to do what.

Always plan your day. When you plan for your entire day, you also decide when to complete your tasks. Therefore, you don’t postpone them further.

What happens when you stop procrastinating?

Naturally, you complete your tasks well before time. So, you feel good about yourself. You won’t feel stressed before the deadline. While you are doing your task, since you don’t feel stressed, the quality of your work will be good.

Remember, people become successful when they stop thinking and take action.
