“ Our most basic common link is that we all inhabit this planet. We all breathe the same air. We all cherish our children’s future. And we all are mortal.”

Some like this... some do that...some...

We often try to build walls and distance ourselves from people by just saying that we belong to different communities. Isn’t that amazing that this planet contains over 7.7 billion citizens and each one has the same limbs, body, features and organic structure? Yet we all look so different from each other. Some of us are white, some are brown and some are black. Some are tall, some are short and some are medium. Some of us are Christians, some are Hindus, some are jewish and some are Muslims. Our likes differ too. Some adore animals, others abhor it. Some might love reading, some might hate it. What might be sweet to us might be sour to another. Some are hardworking, while some are lazy. Some are ambitious while some are not so ambitious. But the fact remains that we all come into this world the same way. Don’t we have the same basic need of food, shelter and clothing? Don’t we breathe same air? Don’t we bleed the same blood? Don’t we shed the same tears? Don’t we laugh , cry and feel pain? Are we really so different?

We all are similar

As children we are just like other children of the world dreaming about our future, wondering of what will we do and become and thinking if we will ever have freedom to make our choices. When we are adults we are no different from others. We all have similar desires, love, affection, freedom, respect, dignity and the right to be heard. We all want safety, security and justice for ourselves and our families. We want see our children doing better than ourselves, to be happy and have a bright future. When we grow old we all want to look back on our lives with pride. We want to see our families flourish and multiply. When nearing death we all wish for a peaceful and a dignified end. Are we really so different?

Our differences are what makes us the same.

We all try to be so different but in the end we do have a lot of similarities amongst us. It is our thoughts, actions and the way we react when put in similar situations that set us apart from one another. Two people can be from the same environment but might react or behave differently when faced with a similar situation.

Likewise two people from different communities might have similar outlook towards the life. So it is not our skin color that makes us different from others as we all strive to be individuals and might have a lot of things in common. Today the increasing terrorism in the world is because of the fact that we consider ourselves different from each other. We only want our community or race to flourish and in an attempt to do that we are becoming devils and destructing god’s beautiful creation.

As human beings we need to stop comparing ourselves to one another. We all have different aspects of our personalities or physical beings which are completely unique to us that no one shares. That is worth celebrating, not degrading.

In reality we are all striving for the same things.

We want to be happy, successful; we want to be loved, treated equally, and to have same rights. We want the freedom to speak our minds and the right to be heard. We are all trying to achieve the same the same goal but why do we ridicule others when they go about it in different ways? If only we could learn to understand and appreciate each other, this world would have been a much better place today. Let us remember, underneath those clothes we are all the same. We have to stop working against each other in order to make our dreams come true. We should realize our potential and try to work on ourselves rather than trying to pull down people just because they are a little different from us. We are special in one way or the other, so let us appreciate an atleast try and understand each other.

“It is not our differences that divide us. It is our inability to recognize, accept and celebrate those differences.”
