Living our lives with regrets, sorrow and anger is not what we can proudly carry for the rest of our journey. Struggle and failures might be hard to endure but once fought will give us major lessons to be learnt.
Sir Charles Spencer Chaplin aka Charlie Chaplin was the treasured actor, director, editor, producer and screenwriter the world will ever witness. He is the classic performer in the history of silent pictures.
Charlie Chaplin is widely distinguished for his flair to make the world burst into laughter by his acting. He was the vital person behind the story making and screenplay of most of his flicks.
As any other rags-to-riches famous person, Charlie Chaplin too had tough childhood with his parent’s separation, mother’s mental illness and no income nor shelter. To become the bread-bearer of the family, he initially did minor roles in stage plays which gained him critics attention for best performance. This gave him the platform to utilize his skills and excel in his passion amidst millions of controversies throughout his life of fame.
Life is a tragedy when seen in close-up, but a comedy in long-shot- Charlie Chaplin
Charlie Chaplin never confined to specific genre of storyline for his movies. He was the only bold performer of the 20th century to select various controversial and eternally dangerous subjects for his screenplay. Yet he completed his sarcastic roles in the most comical ways possible.
Among numerous records he has created, Charlie Chaplin is recorded to be only person to get the longest standing ovation which was for 12 long minutes when he received the Honorary Academy Award in 1972. He accepted this award on reaching United States in 1972 after being banned in 1952 for his straightforward fearless speeches. One of his personal life’s unknown facts was Charlie Chaplin married 4 times and had 6 sons and 5 daughters out of it.
Most of his speeches and conversations were recorded as quotes of high practicality till date. My 7favorite quotes include:
1. ‘Let us strive for the impossible. Remember the great achievements throughout history have been the conquest of what seemed the impossible’
2. ‘Nothing is permanent in this wicked world – not even our troubles.’
3. ‘If you're really truthful with yourself, it's a wonderful guidance.’
4. ‘The deeper the truth in a creative work, the longer it will live.’
5. ‘What do you want meaning for? Life is desire, not meaning!’
6. ‘Machinery should be a blessing to mankind and not a curse. Therefore, let us have shorter hours of labor and cheaper money. The purchasing power comes through wages. Then let us raise them to where each man can enjoy the blessings and the glory of science, which were not created for profit alone, but to serve humanity also.”
7. ‘The mirror is my best friend because when I cry it never laughs.’
Even till date his performances and film-making skills are considered as benchmark for learning. Charlie Chaplin believed in living life to its fullest with every single day as an experience.
That's all any of us are - amateurs. We don't live long enough to be anything else- Charlie Chaplin.
