Questions of Intrigue That Arise In The Mind Of An Atheist
Dear Theist,
As a child, I was told many a stories; stories of God, stories of magic and miracles. The amused young child in me wondered if these miracles were a thing of past, because they did not occur anymore. As a grown-up, my questions more or less remain the same. But one that hangs right above my head is- Did God create us or did we create God for our convenience?

The number of times I come across’ ''Thank God for your good result’’ and ''Don’t worry, God is watching everyone’’, is seriously increasing and not amusing anymore. I find it rather bizarre that we credit ‘God’ for any of our achievements, more contradictory that we blame the same God for our misfortunes and hard times.

I mean, God might have helped me to preform well in my exams, but, wasn’t it my hard work that actually paid of? If someone, called God exists, then the newspapers should have been more of happy things and less of destruction and dystopia.

Isn’t the intimate knowledge that we humans have this incorrigible tendency to choose what is convenient, so we conveniently believe in God and his miracles, fooling ourselves to make things easier for us. You ask me why? Here’s your answer: Humans created God to provide themselves with assurance, that nothing could ever go wrong and things always end up for the good. Carrying this undying faith, you hope that a simple prayer to God would suffice to solve all problems. While this may not be near to the truth, it provides folks strength to deal with their problems.

Bhagat Singh in his book, ‘Why am I an atheist?’ explains ‘’As regard the origin of God, my thought is that man created God in his imagination when he realised his weaknesses.’’

When everything fails, it is amazing to have something to turn to. When Pandora’s box was opened and it seemed that the world would come to an end, since evil was running unrestricted, it was only hope that was left.

Maybe, hope will alone be enough to save this crumbling world as well; in this manner even if God was a human creation, he has become a pivotal one. I know it is too much criticism for a believer like you. You are free to counter this non-believer, but with credible reasons, I apologise if my letter hurt you. I end with a piece of philosophy given by a Greek thinker Epicurus, sincerely hoping you begin to reflect:

‘’Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is omnipotent.
Is he able but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil?’’

Now I ask you, one final time: Did God create us or did we create God?
Ever respectfully,
Atheist
