The saddest memory with ice cream that I have is when at the age of 4 or 5, I dropped a scoop of Vanilla ice cream from the triple scoop ice cream cone that I was having, and I cried my soul out! I cannot imagine anything worse happening with ice cream. It simply does not have the ability to sketch unpleasant memories.
Whether it is on a rough day or time for celebration, an ice cream suits all your moods. The smooth creamy texture of it along with the cool sweet flavor, it is the most common mesmerizing dessert across the globe. Available in plenty of flavors right from the classic chocolate, vanilla, strawberry to the innovative ones like lemon, chilly and mint; you can have what you want and whenever you want when it comes to this chilled dessert.
Known to have created about 2500 years ago, even Alexander the Great enjoyed 'snow and nectar/honey'.
The first account of ice cream was in a letter written by a guest of Maryland Governor William Bladen in 1744.
The first 'ice cream cone' was produced in 1896, thanks to Italo Marchiony.
In the very next year, Alfred Cralle patented the 'ice cream scoop'.
July was designated as 'ice cream month' by American President Ronald Reagen in 1984, with the third Sunday being the 'ice cream day'!
The rich flavorful history of ice cream is still in the making...
It has now been scientifically proven through research that ice cream does have the ability to make a person happy. Eating ice cream activates the Orbitofrontal Cortex(OFC), which is the part of the brain that is responsible for emotional processing and decision making. It showed a positive response as if the brain was being rewarded.
There were also five other parts of the brain that were triggered due to the temperature, texture, the way the mouth moved and the flavor. Their collective response culminated in a feeling of happiness!
So go ahead and lick a scoop of ice cream!
A staunch ice cream lover like me would agree when I say that ice cream solves everything. From bad marks or mood, stress, headache, fever or even a running nose; any negative emotion can be treated with ice cream.
Creators have surpassed extremities of innovation with the development of various flavors, preparation techniques, and presentation styles. Sundaes, soda ice cream, ice cream waffles, soft serves, ice cream sandwiches, cakes and so on.
But sweet memories is what makes ice cream so special. You will never forget those moments when you purposely ate the ice cream slowly and teased your younger sibling saying that your scoop was larger; when you stubbornly insisted your dad to buy you a scoop- in a cone, whenever you passed the shop; those innocent eyes that temptingly gazed at the tubs of ice cream, when ice cream was a reward for obeying mom and the everlasting confusion-"which flavor should I have today?"
Countless moments of happiness, life is better with ice cream!!
Did you know that sociophobics and sociopaths are inclined to consume certain foods and beverages to feel secure? Ice cream is one of them!
