Mental Heath is social and psychological health. It is an important part of life from childhood to adulthood through adolescence. The various factors that contribute mental health problems are:

  1. Biological factors: chemicals in the brain

  2. Trauma in life

  3. Family background of mental health

Mental health is as important as physical health and it can affect the physical health negatively. When someone is diagnosed with physical illness no one says STOP EXAGGERATING or THINK POSITIVE, everything will be fine but, those who have been mentally sick do hear this and this is the society's way to shut them from the world and thus they are not able to come forward to talk about what they are going through.

They feel ashamed of their illness because of the social stigma.

Most people believe that the ones with mental illness are dangerous and violent, but this is not the case. These myths are created because most of the heinous crimes are done by the individuals where there has been a history of mental illness in the individuals life. It is true that criminals have mental illness but most of the people who are mentally sick do not commit crimes. Tv shows and movies inaccurately portray such illnesses.

Just like it is important to educate people on the need for physical health, they need to talk about the steps to curb their mental illness.

A study by who shows that 1 in 5 Indians may suffer from depression. This study shows that 87% showed awareness of mental illness whereas 71% used terms associated with stigma. Studies show that China followed by India and US are the countries that suffer with most of the mental illness.

But we are progressing in the field of people coming out with their mental disorders. Celebrities have stepped forward in sharing their own experiences with their struggle of the illness. Deepika Padukone talked about her depression phase. Honey Singh talked about his bipolar disorder. This creates an impact in the mindsets of people that mental illness is a normal disorder in the brain chemicals like any other illness and needs to be treated.

Seeking for HELP does not make you weak. It just shows your strength to come up with what the society does not accept, talk about it and get yourself a treatment. Many a times psychologists are often wrongfully thought to be" PAAGALON KA DOCTOR" and people avoid to go to them. It is not so, they treat people who are mentally sick, talk to them about their problems and help them cope up with it. They study the mind and behaviour and respectively treat their patients.

Mental disorders can be completely treated and one can get fully recovered from this illenss just like any other physical disorder. All you need to do is get educated, start to talk, say no to social stigma, spread the word, get involved in various activities and nurture your own mental health. you need to be determined enough and be willing to get cured.

Positive mental health allows people to work with their full potential, work productively and contribute to the upliftment of the society. To maintain good mental health one if feels like, should meet a doctor, do more physical work, keep oneself busy, get enough sleep, try to stay positive and most importantly connect with others.
