Man and woman are the two wheels of the carriage of the society. This statement in itself shows the importance of a woman in the society.

The society says, that a woman is incomplete without a man but the reality depicts that a man is also incomplete without a woman. Thus, we can say that both men and women are complement to each other.

For ages the gender inequality has affected every aspect of culture and society. It is believed that the different jobs, roles and status performed by man and woman is determined by sex.

They say that these roles, jobs and status are natural and therefore not changeable.
Even today in many corners of the world, as soon as the child is born, families and the society begin the process of gendering. The birth of the son is celebrated and the birth of the girl is full of pain. Sons are showered with love and care and are encouraged to be tough and outgoing, while, on the other hand, girls are encouraged to be homebound and shy. All these differences are gender differences and are nurtured in our homes.

All these gender inequalities have an adverse impact on the developmental goals as it reduces the economic growth. So restraining a woman from participating in social, political and economic activities can adversely affect the whole society. Still, today gender inequality is a harsh reality of our society.

Society says that reservation and welfare programs can reduce this gender pay disparity but the reality is that without the involvement of whole society, especially men; no reservations, programs, laws, policies can help in the survival of our women.

The sex ratio, according to 2011 census report stands at 940 per 1000 males. Even in recent survey women are paid 19% less than men and this pay gap exists almost across all sectors.

To make our women free from gender disparity, we need to make a start from our home. Parents are the first ones to educate their children. If children grow up visualising gender inequality than they are going to have the same negative exposure to gender role.

Parents should teach their boys the true meaning of equality and respect so that gender equality becomes the reality of our life. Parents should not teach their daughters to be homebound or shy instead, they should train them to be strong, tough and outgoing. Parents should treat their sons and daughters equally.

We should create a world, where every day is men's and women's day, where every girl is free, where we can learn the true meaning of respect and equality. The world where every boy and girl can live the life they wish , is the world that we need today.
