I recently watched this Ayushman Khurana starrer bollywood movie called Article 15. A lot of times, we just make up a presumption about a movie, about an actor and it's story line. I don't intend to blame you, that's quite genuine, what we do, but we all have been doing it because we have been seeing it coming true at last. Here's an exception that I would like to share with you guys. Just like always there was this mindset that I had, the movie is going to be a quite predictable one with people struggling in the lack of rules and laws and then our hero will come into the frame as an honest officer and will get it all done in minutes. But that didn't happen actually. This was one of the most rare and spectacular thrillers in which I observed the hero struggling throughout the movie. Let me tell you the jist first and then we will go finer.
It's a story of LalGaon, a socially backward area in the state of Uttar Pradesh where there's huge dominance of the upper castes on the SC's, ST's and other backward classes. The story begins with the entry of an IPS officer Ayan who has never been posted in such a dungeon like area where people live and earn on the name of their castes and treat other on the basis of the same. The film contains a very funny scene on this irony of our society. A kidnapping of three girls from the so called backward classes has been done in the area by a local goon. Two of which are sexually assaulted and then hanged up on a tree. One is gone missing and the main case is to find the missing girl.
The entire police department prefers to stay away from the case and hide it in the name of murder by the fathers of the two girls. But the Additional SP, Ayan refuses to do so and digs inside the matter to get to the roots. He abolishes the untouchability in the area through methods which are far from the regular cliche methods we have watched so far. He enters a pig yard despite being a brahmin and reaches the other end where he finds out the third girl Pooja who was shivering from fear and gets her to the hospital. He along with his team encounters the goons behind the crime and finds out that police constables and a 3-star ranked police officer were a part of it. This was found to be a matter of complete disgrace which in turn puts a question on our administrative system who are claimed to be the protectors of our society.
The movie directly leaves a message of the insecurities that these minority backward classes possess within themselves because of our narrow mindedness towards them, and about how some people are trying their best to deal with such sensitive issues of the society.
Jai Hind!
