When I was in the class of 9th. Our school arranged for a field trip to the nearby archeological museum. Lots of rome's ancient ruins remain carefully preserved even for centuries. Many kinds of snipers and other hunting weapons such as spear-thrower, Bolas, Blowgun, Boomerang, Cutlas, Hunting Sword are preserved for centuries. When I was hearing about the historical events and hunting genre. The thought of boomerang keeps on uttering my mind and just keeps on weaving. I'm the person most interested in gaining knowledge about historical events. My eagerness made me seek information about boomerang. Come let's gain something more interesting. First what comes to our mind on hearing boomerang. As a hunting tool, which is used in ancient times. Yes, but it is not only used for hunting, though for various purposes too.

The way you throw a boomerang and making it come back to your hand is not just an easy skill and not everyone can do it. The first designed boomerang was not meant to return. The boomerangs are classified based on their capability as returning and not returning boomerang.

Chronical of Boomerang

The first designed boomerang is a non-returnable boomerang that has been used by the ancient humans around 20,000 years back. The oldest boomerang discovered was made from mammoth's tusk. Non-returnable boomerangs were used as a weapon primarily for hunting. They were carved in such a way that they would stay in the air for stipulated time to hit the particular object accurately even from a long distance. Normally it is called "Good throwing sticks" that were used for hunting purposes.

The Returning Boomerang

The return of the boomerang was accidentally invented. While carving the not returning boomerang, unknowingly it is carved in such a way that it gets to return to the thrower.

Returning boomerangs were not especially used for hunting, when it strikes an object it doesn't return. These boomerangs were used for sports and recreational activities.

Working of a Boomerang

Boomerangs are carved with two wings. When it is joined together it appears in a 'v' shape. The wings of the Boomerang are in the shape of the airplane's wing we call it as an airfoil. The shape of the boomerang is carved in such a way that it is flat at one wing and curved at the other wing. The edges of one are thicker than the other. When a boomerang is thrown it stays in the air because of the lift provided by the airfoil. Do you know why a boomerang returns? It is due to the phenomenon known as gyroscopic precession.

When I was surfing the net regarding the gyroscopic precision, It's nothing but when a force applied perpendicular to the angular momentum it gets deflected by 90 degrees. This gives side to side rotation as a result of a force of 90 degrees it comes back. When the boomerang is thrown, the top wing is moving faster through the air when compared to the other end. The top wing moves along the direction of the thrower while the bottom in the opposite direction.

Direction of usage

Boomerang cannot be used as simple as it is, without a mastering skill it would be very difficult on its usage, throwing a boomerang requires some procedure, holding it vertically and tilt at an angle of 20-30 degree with 'v' direction pointing towards the thrower. Only the skilled masters, can use it in a better way to reach the appropriate target.

Most of the ancient inventions are being extinct, only a few can be visible in museums, the knowledge about the chronicles can be gained only through the historical monuments. So, if you get a chance of visiting, do gain it as much as you can.
