Online learning doesn’t need any introductions, I’m sure. Its being used by almost each and every student right now (including me) and I’m sure they’ll consider this as a boon. Online learning has taken over the entire youth generation. You Tube is no longer a platform just for watching music videos and movies. It has become an educative platform as well for students of all ages.

Sites like Indiaeducation.net, Khan Academy, Unacademy, Coursera, Academic Earth, Meritnation, Byju’s, Code Academy, etc are quite popular and are used by lakhs of students across India. Some of these sites are free too and it offers courses in a number of subjects; be it Mathematics, Science, Economics, Computer Science, communication and presentation skills and many more. They have live classes, exercises, practice tests and help from experts as well and students from any board can use these lessons and test to increase their knowledge about any subject.

Online learning or E-Learning has many advantages as well.

  • Students can access these lessons any time they want to. There is no fixed time for a subject like it’s there at schools.

  • The time table or class schedules at schools and colleges have a fixed subject at a fixed time. But while studying online, they can pick any subject at a particular time.

  • Students can study at their own pace or speed. There is no hurry.

  • The videos can be paused rewinded as well. If a student wants to be crystal clear about a topic, he/she can replay the video and listen to the entire lecture again.

  • This method is cheaper than education at schools and colleges.

  • The students can study wherever they feel comfortable.

  • Many students are intimidated or uncomfortable while speaking or asking doubts in front of the whole class. Shy or introvert students definitely find this better because they can concentrate more due to lack of class activity.

  • Since the class timings are flexible in case of online learning, students can get their degree while working too.

  • Students can form virtual study groups and discuss about the course, what to study and they co create projects too. They can ask each other queries about any topic and swap your ideas about any assignments.

  • Students can appear for practice tests and quizzes and get the results almost instantaneously. They can check your progress from time to time and that will help you understand which areas need more effort.

E-Learning has come a long way in this digital era. Apart from the above mentioned advantages, it also helps us develop a very important quality, that is time management. Getting flexible study hours and getting the course completed in time does require some level of time management and this skill is something that is not only useful for students, but for everyone during their entire lifetime.
