Its a glam world out there and it sure isnt easy to fit in. From what Ive been seeing, Instagram models are popping out everywhere with their perfect bodies and skirts with slits and crop tops. The pressure to look fashionable and glamorous is increasing everyday. Being overweight in this generation can lower your self confidence in unimaginable ways.

This article is not about how being overweight can cause health problems. Neither it is an motivating or uplifting article about how size doesnt matter and you should be proud of your body the way it is. Cause thats true. I only want to talk about Fat shaming which has become so dangerously normal that it honestly scares me.

I'm an overweight girl myself and its not a pleasant feeling when you walk into a store and you hardly find any outfit you like in your size or worse, the salesman says it right to your face that there is nothing in your size even before you start browsing the store.

Fat shaming includes harassing an overweight person to make them feel ashamed about their weight. In fact, people who struggle with weight issues become targets for cyber bullying and discrimination. But the saddest part is that the people who actually make fun, dont realize how deeply it affects the victim. When you upload a picture on social media and you get comments like oooh my! Thunder thighs!, Dont you think you need to lose some weight?, Look her jiggling arms!, or any other comment on your body, it can harm your self esteem badly. Studies show that many obese persons suffer from depression and sometimes this depression can lead to suicidal thoughts. Or at times people tend to eat more than usual when theyre depressed and that can lead to more health related issues.

We come across many cases about students being bullied in high school because theyre overweight, guys breaking up with girls because they are fat or not sexy enough, girls calling guys losers because theyre overweight and dont fit in the definition of stud, overweight people being told that they wouldnt look good in crop tops or ripped jeans or bodycon dresses or skirts or pants or capris or sleveless tops; the list is endless. The instances might seem small at that time but they get imprinted on their minds. The saddest part is the comments not only come from strangers and friends but also from their own family members and relatives. And after battling all these situations how can you actually expect someone to stand in front of the mirror and feel beautiful and pretty and confident?

These cases of fat shaming have extended to celebrities too. The users on Twitter or any other platform dont hesitate at all while calling some actress fat or ugly or disgusting. Its easy to hide behind a screen and throw insults at people isnt it?

Spreading the necessity of good health is important but fat shaming isnt the right way to do so at all. Its nice to see that some people dont let these comments affect them and celebrities like Ashley Graham are taking an amazing stand to show that plus size is as sexy as it can get.

Instead of bringing someone down, lift them up and make them feel good about themselves. You cant imagine how telling someone they look nice today, or that their eyes are pretty or that they have a beautiful smile can make their day!
