A sequel to my very first poem – Dark Night.

Even tonight, she looks up at the sky
Yet again it's one of her many dark nights
But tonight, half the world also watches
To see the celestial trifecta, the naked eye catches
What they see is a phenomenon, they see the eclipse
But she knows the moon, there's always more to it
So long it received from the sun, it's light
but now that earth stands between,
can it still shine bright
When the sun is hidden
Hope out of sight
Blues and purples gone with daylight
What now
when all is growing dim
What now
when Earth and Sun move in
But orange and red still flow in
Even tonight the light stretches in
Through the Earth's atmosphere
Through all the growing doubts and fear
Half the world will watch the beauty so clear
As the light reaches you here
And she saw that even on such a dark night
Light will always reach you here
Stretching in from far or near
Light will always reach you here.

I was inspired to write this when I went up to my terrace to watch the Total Lunar Eclipse (Super Blue Blood Moon) on the 31st of January, 2018. I read up on the phenomenon and I was so fascinated by it. So many people were out there watching it, even people who wouldn’t look up at the Moon on a normal night. What I saw was not the eclipse. I imagined how it would be for the moon’s source of light to be hidden. After drawing light from it all these days, suddenly, it cannot be seen. I’m sure a lot of us can relate to that feeling. When you’re looking forward to something or when the one thing you’re counting on is nowhere to be seen. Is it possible to go on when there seems to be no hope, no light. I found it so beautiful that even when something got in the way of the Sun and the Moon, light still reached the Moon. When you’re connected to or dependent on a light much greater than yourself, it’ll always help you shine. Even when you aren’t able to see it, light will reach you here. And when it does, it’ll be something so wonderful that half the world will come out to see it. No matter where you are and whether or not you can see it, light will always reach you here. Light will always come through.
