We human have caused a lot of damage to our planet Earth because of our greed and wants. We are blessed with resources like skill and knowledge that we can use to create new things from existing things. But that does not means that we are going to misuse these resource to damage the other resources that we get. The resources like water, coal etc. are at verge of extinction. It is not good at all.

Some definitions of resources are- ‘A stock or supply of money, materials, staff, and other assets that can be drawn on by a person or organization in order to function effectively.’

OR

‘An action or strategy which is adopted in different circumstances to achieve what one desires.’

Basically, there are two main types of resources renewable and non-renewable resources. Renewable are the once that can be renewed after sometime. They are available in large amount. Whereas, non-renewable resources are the ones that are available in a fixed amount, they can’t be renewed easily and excess use can lead to depletion of these resources. Solar energy, wind energy, tidal, geo-thermal are few examples of renewable resources whereas coal, petroleum, fossil fuelsiron, wood, metalsare examples of non-renewable resources.

Non-renewable resources are at an edge of depletion. Today about 87% of energy supply is done through non-renewable resources and 8% by renewable resources. There is a large difference in both the rations. This is because the consumption level; we use non-renewable resources in larger amount for our day to day activity.

But then also we have scope of expansion of renewable resources. This is only possible if some investments are made and steps are taking. We can do this by making investments in all the renewable resources. This means we have to shift from non-renewable resources to renewable ones. It is not easy to shift from one type of resource to the other. But we have to do this. Different things can be done by the government and by us. But firstly we have to work at individual level, we can’t blame the government for not doing anything…..

Few things that we as an individual can do are

  1. Using for solar energy as the source for generations of electricity.

  2. Trying to use public transports rather than using our public transports.

  3. The most important thing is to follow the 3R’s (reuse, reduce and recycle)

These are few very simple steps which everyone can use and also one can use many other steps to do the same.

So we all can contribute a bit toward our earth by shifting from non-renewable to renewable resources.

Very bell stated in her write up by Bhumika that non-renewable resources are depleting because of human wants, more so because of human greed. Something has to be done by the Government as well as we all to ensure that future generations do not suffer because of depleted natural resources. The topic is very relevant at the present times. Relevant for every body and also to act upon in the interest of our own future generations.
