John:

Never had I felt so strong an urge to kill somebody. That Robert! I felt like hanging him upside down from a tree and torturing him to death! I just knew that he was never the right guy for Janet. Poor Janet. She finally had to pay for her mistake, her mistake of choosing that fool over me. I had never thought that she’d pay for her mistake by losing her life!

I clenched my fists and glared at Robert, that jerk, who still had no clue about what had just happened. And why would he? All he had ever cared about was his money, and his success. If he had not gone to London, she would probably be alive today. I felt extremely bad for her, and those sobs just refused to cease.

While I was trying to escape that terrain of thoughts, Robert rushed towards me.

“John, why are you here? What’s going on? Please tell me. Where is Janet?”

I just kept glaring at him, with a strong urge to murder him right there. I grabbed him by the collar and said,

“You killed her! How foolish could you have been? She’s dead, all thanks to you!”

To my shock, he started laughing.

“You’re kidding, aren’t you?”

“Of course not, you idiot! You don’t believe me? Come on.”

I grabbed his hand, and led him to the centre of the crowd, where Janet lay, unconscious. Oh, she lay, dead as a doornail, to be precise. There was foam trickling down her chin. Someone had poisoned her for sure.

Meanwhile, Robert’s hands turned cold. He seemed still, completely emotionless. He had a blank look on his face, like he had no clue what had happened. I left his hand, and he fell down in the middle of the crowd. People started murmuring louder, and the entire room was filled with sympathetic words and annoying things like,

“Oh my, poor thing!”

“May Jesus give him strength in this moment of crisis.”

But I felt no pity. I knew it, Robert was responsible for Janet’s death. If Robert had not left her alone, she would have been alive today. My thoughts were interrupted by a knock at the door.
