When you are a tomboy, people automatically judge you to be a lesbian too. What people actually do not get is ‘why would a girl, in her sound state of mind, want to be a boy?’. For those of you think along the same lines, being tomboyish has nothing to do with me wanting to be a guy or comparing myself to them. I have been brought up in an environment where we could choose what we wanted to be and what we were comfortable with. Yup, I live in India and yes I have very normal Indian parents with same rules that any average person faces. But, the one thing my parents were really cool about, was the fact that their kids should choose what they would be like when they grow up, only as long as they are not hurting themselves or anyone else.

I am sorry if most of you did not get the right to choose, but this is what I was, am and will be comfortable with. But I am not sorry for the way I want myself to be. I have not still found my orientation and would like to take my time to find it and that should not be anyone’s business. Sure there are times when even I feel pressured to look a certain way according to the setup or the event I am going to but at the end the way I dress is what I am comfortable in.

Believe me, it has its own perks and now I see them every single day. The very first one is the fact that it takes a lot of time off to dress up in the morning. I have friends who need at least 30 minute more than me, trying to find the right outfit, right shoes and accessories and hairdos to go with their overall look. For me, random tees with sneakers and denims are my forte. And somehow people have actually responded to my fashion statements as it is extremely practical and budget friendly. The second most important one is the look on all the misogynists’ faces when I prove myself to be better at things that they cannot do. Well, mostly. And my upbringing has let me learn a lot more of practical skills than others. I can practically change anything from a bulb to a car tyre. I can climb trees and be very handy outdoors. I am not implying that other guys and girls cannot do any of that stuff, but I just feel that being who I am has given me an upper edge over most counterparts.

So do not let somebody else change your inherent qualities. You are fierce just the way you are and can face the world any day if you know who you are from within.

Go find yourself!
