"Mera beta engineer banega "

Sounds familiar? oh right! 3 idiots - the movie that made us laugh , cry and create memories that will stay on forever. What if I tell you that 3 idiots is the story of almost every indian household, What if I also tell you that the line above is not taken from 3 idiots but is copied by the film from our lives.

Parental Pressure is something that has been very evident in the Indian households since the beginning of time. Whether it be studies , marraige , life decisions , financial decisions a child even at the age of 30 or even 50 remains a child for an Indian parent. Well the phrase can also be seen in the way of love and affection but certainly deviats from the topic.

The major stem roots of parental pressure are:-

Sharma Ji ka Ladka ( Comparison)

Not only in India but almost in every country parents have a tendancy to peak into the lives of other parents and compare their children with their own. I say why this comparison , each child is unique and has his or her own gifts that they come with. Because someone else has purchased a mercedeze does not mean that we have to purchase it to. If someone is performing well or if someone is pursuing engineering then it does not mean that your child shall too or have the calibre to. What if he wanted to be a painter and was actually good in it. If a parent does not let the child pursue whatever he or she wishes then they are murderers who killed a blooming skill .

Mai nahi banpaya ( Aspiration)

Sometimes parents also burden their children with their unfullfiled dreams and desires and completely forget that they have a life and are seperate humans. The best example even though a controversial one is the movie Dangal - The story of the life of Mahavir Phogat and his daughters. They might have been successful and also might have enjoyed the life but what their father wanted from them at a very young age was to fulfil his desire of bringing a gold in international level. We cannot even ignore the fact that he had actually taken away their childhood from them for the fulfilment of his dream.

Iss sab se kuch nahi hoga ( Not considered Respectable)

In a country like India music , dance or any other talent is good only upto an extracurricular level or to entertain guests at home and functions. Anything above that is said to be a waste of time. A person who aspires to become a singer or a dancer is not given respect in the society but a perosn who is dropping out an year to study of IITJEE only because he was forced by his or her parents is . THIS IS THE HARD TRUTH OF OUR SOCIETY.

I would like to conclude by saying that a child is a different person and no parent has a right to take away their dreams and aspirations from them. I was really lucky that my mom dad did not pressurize me to become something they aspired to desired but a lot of children are not. Not only does parental pressure break morale but also breaks the confidence of the child so please dont pressurize your child and let him do whatever he or she wants.
