There is huge waste created during festivals and cultural events like a wedding. Though it is done unintentionally, still the waste created is so harmful to the environment and we can’t control the consequences later. So we much take necessary precautions now, so that we can have a safe and secure future.

Some of the types of waste created during festivals and weddings are –
•Plastics
•Paper
•Cardboard
•Steel
•Glass
•Aluminium

These waste can be minimized by:
•Allowing use of only biodegradable disposables or re-usable cups and plates on stalls.
•Providing separate bins for recycling.
•Involving the crowd by supplying recycling bin bags and either a returnable rubbish tax or reward incentives.

•Utilising volunteers and potential sponsorship for the clean-up and sorting efforts.
•Separating waste for recycling.
•Providing a standard, recycling and biodegradable bin bags for traders.

•Create sculptures using waste generated on site (e.g. plastic bottles).
•Consider health, safety and hygiene.
•Being aware of legislation and being prepared.

During weddings there is a large creation of waste. This waste has to be minimized by using following tricks -

•Use e-cards instead of printed cards.
•Less use of plastic flowers for decoration as it creates lots of waste.
•Pick up the flowers after your event has ended and deliver them to residents and patients in hospitals, cancer treatment centres, nursing homes and hospice care facilities.

•Avoid using plastic plates for dinner. Use steel or the best to use are banana leaves. They are eco-friendly and creates less weight.

•Use cotton napkins instead of tissues. They can be washed and used again.
•Don’t give gifts in plastic wrappers. Instead, use cloths or recycled bags for this purpose.
So these were some of the tricks to reduce waste. Take collective efforts and make our earth worth leaving.
