PHOBIA!!!

The commonest medical term to panic nowadays. This type of anxiety disorder is getting too familiar to us with increasing knowledge of mental health, which is obviously a good sign. It is generally stated that women are more prone to phobias than men. This mental illness of persistent fear can usually occur to a person due to presence of any kind of object or situation. A single person may undergo multiple phobias at separate times.

There is a vast list of phobias which actually occur to different humans. Greek prefixes are often used to name the fears along with a phobia suffix.But instead of going through the exhaustive list of all the phobias let’s know about some awfully weird ones!

1.Xanthophobia

Remember? Yellow Yellow, Dirty Fellow..maybe this yellow colour is such dirty to the Xanthophobiacs that they fear anything and everything of yellow---even the phrase YELLOW fears them!

2.Chaetophobia

Do you have hairfall problem? No I am not going to suggest you a Sulphate free shampoo! Person suffering from chaetophobia might get a mini heartattack checking their own combs then. Yes you got it right, it is the fear of loose or detached hair. Some may even be terrified by noticing their own body hairs!

3.Ablutophobia

We commonly joke about not bathing in the heavy winter days. But it remains no more a joke when it turns into a fear of bathing or getting clean, by some or the other way, persistently. So should we be kind to the co-worker who stinks? He might be fighting a hidden mental battle.

4.Arachibutyrophobia

A real battle! Couldn’t think it to be a phobia. It is a phobia of peanut butter sticking to the roof of the mouth. This choking sensation can happen with any edible substance with sticky textures.

5.Kathisophobia

Who doesnot want a cozy space to release the tiredness? May be its not for the Kathisophobiacs, they fear of sitting down. Do they stand all day long? God Knows.

6.Caligynephobia

Sounds crazy? Also known as venustraphobia, the fear of being around beautiful women goes way beyond nervousness and results in chest pain, numbness and even ( Oh! He faints).

7.Hippopoto- monstro- sesquippedaliophobia

While reading this, you might suffer the phobia itself. This very long word refers to the fear of very long words. If you have it, don’t even try to tell people what your phobia is called!

8.Cibophobia

The other name, Sitophobia is derived from Greek Sitos which means bread and phobos which means fear. Cibophobiacs fear food. How do they live?

9.Linonophobia

It refers to the fear of string. Maybe the fear of getting tied up!

10.Phobophobia: Fear of having a phobia

Unfortunately, we all are suffering with this condition to some extent. This is similar to fighting a losing battle: the fear of acquiring a phobia.
