The Pixar Theory

It is a theory suggested by Jon Negroni that all Pixar movies are connected and belong to the same universe. But the theory is unlike, say, that of the Marvel Cinematic Universe where all the movies are officially connected and all the movies finally lead up to Endgame. In Pixar’s case, it’s an unofficial theory that depicts how Pixar is building up a bigger storyline with its seemingly independent and unconnected movies.

This is how this theory goes:

·Brave

Everything started here. Set during the medieval era, we witness the existence of Will O’ The Wasps, or Magic, and we meet The Witch who can harness this magic to make sentient objects, like brooms and knives, come to life. She can also vanish through wooden doors.

·The Incredibles

After medieval era Scotland, we jump a few decades into the future where superheroes exist. Humans have found a way to harness the power of the Will O’ The Wasps to gain superpowers. The antagonist, Syndrome, develops an AI system to defeat the supers. This AI could help him to enable and control machines. This AI system was later used by a corporation called Buy N Large to defeat all superheroes.

·Toy Story

This movie brought the suspicion of every child that their playthings come to life when nobody is around. Toys are sentient objects that come to life when humans are not present nearby. Toys (sentient objects) are now alive, thanks to technical prowess of Syndrome’s AI. The buzz Lightyear action figures are created by a company called BNL (Buy N Large). The toys also start resenting the humans as shown in the sequels to the movie.

·Finding Nemo

The movie revolves around underwater creatures, mostly fish. These creatures have also developed into an advanced species as they have schools and freeway systems, etc. Humans are capturing animals and polluting nature for their benefits. We see the growing resentment of animals towards humans.

·Ratatouille

We see a rat who wants to become a chef. He has developed human emotions and can also read and cook, which are qualities that can be attributed only to humans. The animals are developing human traits so they can gain control over their world. Remy literally controls Linguini telling him what to do and his family of rats doesn’t approve of humans and posses a strong sense of fear and hatred towards them.

·Up

The world is getting more polluted now. Carl has to sell his house to BNL, a huge corporation, that is expanding the city. He takes his house along with him to South America where he encounters a prehistoric bird. The antagonist uses AI (Syndrome’s) to control animals, especially his dogs, and these events start the war between animals and humans.

·Inside Out

We follow a young girl, Riley, and the emotions in her head. Joy was Riley’s dominant emotion as all her memories were joyful. But when she has to change her house, everything changes. This hints at why the Monsters are desperate at harnessing a human’s Happiness as it is a very strong emotion.

·Cars

The events are set tears after the animal-human war where the machines helped the humans to win the war. BNL now controls the world. The humans have left the polluted Earth and have left behind their machines. The cars are powered by the BNL AI system and Allinol fuel. As we see in the sequels to the movie, there is a shortage of fuel as the Earth is almost completely depleted.

·Wall-E

Humans have left the Earth. Wall-E robots are given the task of cleaning the dirty planet. One of these robots likes the human culture and the fascination manifests when he falls in love with anther robot. Humans have only one purpose now- fulfilling their needs as they sit around all day just eat mostly. Many humans have a desire to one day go back to Earth.

·A Bug’s Life

A few humans returned to Earth as the planet has once again become inhabitable. The plant which was growing on the BNL spaceship in Wall-E has now grown and has become home to ants and other insects. The ants can now live through a full summer. The extended life span happens to be a result of evolved and mutated genes.

·Monsters Inc.

Radiations caused by BNL have led to change in the genes of animals who have now grown into monsters. The animal-human war has left its scars and the monsters are careful of humans. They used to scare human kids to generate energy for their civilization but later started to harness human happiness as it was a better energy source. Boo, the kid, keeps going through doors in hope to find her monster friends, Sully and Mike. Her travels through the doors makes her go into different time periods as she doesn’t know how to get to a specific time and place. This reminds us of The Witch from the medieval era who could vanish through wooden doors.

If you can find any weight to this fan theory, you will see how Pixar is trying to tell us a bigger story with their individual movies. Has this been done consciously by Pixar or it just happens to be a coincidence, who knows?
