Cartoon Shows That Went Off Air Too Soon

5. Danny Phantom

The show was created by Butch Hartman for Nickelodeon, who also created The Fairly OddParents. The series revolved around a 14-year old boy named Danny Fenton whose parents are paranormal activity investigators. The parents open a portal to bridge the gap between human world and the ‘ghost zone’. Pressured by his friends, Danny stumbles into the portal and turns into a human-ghost hybrid with superpowers. Throughout the series, he fights the evil ghosts to save the human world.

The show suffered a premature cancellation after only two seasons. It was a hit and had created a substantial fanbase. The show went off air due to differences between the creator and producers. Today, the show enjoys a cult following.

4. Ozzy and Drix

Ozzy and Drix was produced by WB Animation and it first aired on Cartoon Network. Ozzy is a white blood cell and Drix is a cold pill. The events take place inside the body of a person called Hector, who lives quite an unhealthy life. Ozzy and Drix are given the responsibility to defend Hector’s body from any harm. The show was witty and unique with abundance of healthy messages and life values. Ozzy and Drix had to encounter the rowdy Testosterone gang, unexpected appendicitis attack and many other adventures as they stayed on a 24-hour alert all the time.

However, the show was abruptly cancelled after a 2 season – 26 episodes run. It was reported that the show had failed to strike a chord with the audience. The target audience for the show wasn’t quite impressed.

3. Dragon Booster

Dragon Booster was a very unique animated series. Long after a dragon-human war, which the human won, the two species are existing simultaneously, though a danger of another war remains. Humans have learnt to tame the ferocious beasts and use them for sport and companionship. Both the species live in harmony. A group of people want to conquer and reign over the species of dragons which may start another war and Dragon Booster has to eliminate this threat.

The show ran for four seasons and was then cancelled. The networks had a contract with the creators for only three seasons, and never renewed after that. The creators then started to work on another show called Storm Hawks which became much more popular.

2. Megas XLR

This maybe one of the coolest animated shows ever. The show revolves around Coop and Jaime, who find a giant Mecha robot from a distant galaxy in a junkyard. Coop fixes his car to the robot as its head and controls it with his video game controller. The two with the aid of an intergalactic soldier, go off into the space to fight evil aliens. The show served as a homage to Mecha anime.

The series debuted on Toonami, but failed to garner a sizeable fanbase. The show was cancelled after two seasons. Cartoon Network aired reruns and finally it was shifted to a graveyard slot where it met its end. Fans have signed petitions to bring back XLR.

1.Swat Kats: The Radical Squadron

This series would be a fresh memory with many people. It is set in a world of humanoid-feline creatures. Two mechanics, T-Bone and Razor, live a secret life of vigilante pilot-fighters who defend their city against evil aliens and often find themselves on the wrong side of their city’s military regime. They possess a super fighter jet which is capable of speed and destruction.

The show was very popular and had a huge fanbase, but was cancelled abruptly. The reason for cancellation was very ridiculous. Hanna Barbera, the production company, deemed the show to be ‘too violent’ and wanted to make space for more children friendly shows. Creator, Christian Tremblay started a fund-raising campaign for revival of the show and is reportedly in talks with producers who may produce the next installment of the series.

The golden age of cartoons is gone and the coming generations won’t possibly have the boon of such cartoon shows. But if anybody manages to get a hold of these or similar classic and evergreen animated series, do get them and preserve them, out of respect for their creators.
