If you educate a man, you educate a single man, but if you educate a girl, you educate a generation.

Education of girl child is indispensible in each and everyone’s life. A girl child is like a precious stone who spreads its luster and brightness in the world. Education of women lays the foundation of a solid future. If we turn back the hands of time then we would come to know about the savage sufferings of being a girl child. There were times when girls where considered as a burden on their families. Parents at that time had a bee in their bonnet that if a girl child takes birth then they would be back to the wall. Also innocent girls at tender age were pushed into dreadful hole of child marrige. The ruthless removal of female foetus which was as hard as nail became a fallacy of discrimination between education of girls and boys. Earlier orthodox people of our society gave no heed to girls child’s education and consider that it will cost an arm and a leg, because of this out of world’s 900 million people illiterate people, 65% are females. Aren’t these figures disturbing???

The 2 major adversaries to eduaction of girl child are: illiteracy and poverty. Due these girls were hit below the belt but they bit the bullet and things started to change steadily. The splendid programmes and policies supporting girl child education played an efficacious role in this direction. Several policies like reservations, tax benefits and subsidies to women entrepreneurs thus provided a helping hand. The entrepreneur development programme induced by the government bore fruits. By declaring education as a fundamental right, our country ensures constitutional provisions for providing free and compulsory education to all the children between 6 to 14 years of age.

But this not enough! All we know is that drop and drop make an ocean, similarly by putting our shoulder to the wheel and combining endeavours one day we’ll definitely make a difference. This is a chain reaction that education leads to individual development as well as development of a whole society. So instead of giving a cold shoulder to girl child education we must support it as education gives shot in the arm.
