Social media and social networking seem to play an imperative part of peoples lives around the world. There are some who debate whether it is improving or crippling communication skills. Sitting behind a computer communicating with cyber friends can be easy and fun but can weaken a person’s verbal communication skills. I will not only focus on the negative impacts on communication because there are some positive impacts on communication through social media. I will explore how social media and networking strengthens and weakens communication.

Social media is collection of websites, applications and other platforms that enable us to share or create content and also helps us to participate in social networking. Social media is not limited to blogging and sharing pictures, there are lot of strong tools also that social media provides. That is because that the impact of social media is very high and far reaching. It can make or break images.

Today people use social media not only for personal communication and to share some information but also for business and propaganda. The communications network plays a great role in a person’s self-development and self-realization. Networking helps people improve communicative skills and have abilities to solve a great number of life problems.

Businesses ability to communicate has changed drastically from the 1990’s to the now modern broadband and fiber optic cable world of today. Back then when the internet was still relatively young, the ways of getting a product out or communicating to the community of a service was included newspaper ads, radio spots or talk show appearances. While a modern communications campaign may still include some or all of the above, there is a brand new factor to take into consideration: the social media chatter of the entire planet.

Today, there are roughly one billion active Facebook users, 343 million Google+ users, 200 million LinkedIn users and 500 million Twitter users. Now, let’s change the word “users” to “influencers.” That’s more than a billion influencers who have the power to help or harm your business goals.

Communication has improved greatly by emerges and continual growth of social media. Everyone from churches to schools use it to communicate with users. Social media has evolved communication to new heights. The ease of access and growth makes it very beneficial to everyone from pastors to politicians. As social media evolves, communication will improve and continue to soar to new heights. The positive impact on communication definitely overcomes the negative and makes it very beneficial.

Social media is already part of our lives and we need to embrace it. However, it is important to set boundaries on the extent to which we should allow it to control our lives.
