India, a country with the population of 1.35 billion, is one of the largest markets of fashion brands. With 65% of its population below 35 years of age,USD 7,864 million Indian fashion industry tends to cater the needs of this segment of the society. Apparel market, the biggest contributors of this prodigious industry is as diverse as the country itself. Globalisation, increase in disposable income and brand awareness has revamped the industry. The industry is witnessing this new outlook, thanks to the evolving lifestyle of the youth and their desire to stay up to date.

Let’s analyse the latest trends among the youth:

1) Hankered: This segment is so in love with brands, that it can spend its 50% salary for purchasing branded apparels. Well, brands love them too. Brands have continuously been evolving and coming up withproducts at competitive prices just for them. This section is exploding with the increase in disposable income and the obsession for brands even at the lowest layer of pyramid.

2) Swish Bibi: From ethnic to contemporary, this section demands a perfect blend of fashion and tradition. The style adopted by this segment is indo-western. This segment wants something traditional, but with a western touch. Big brands like Biba and Fabindia are also pushing themselves to cater to this section of the society.

3) Screen Bee: When she starts scrolling, she ends up purchasing. This person loves to explore shopping websites in her free time. Fashion industry accounts 18% of its entire sales from online platforms. Although people like to shop online, but not being able to try before purchasing has always been a complain. To tackle this, Myntra has come up with a try and buy solution. Using this, you can try clothes at home and return immediately if you don’t like the fit.

4) Athleisures: Well, comfort is the new style. This section would rather wear a pyjama, then struggle in a short fancy skirt. This pattern has made brands design their products differently. Many brands have already started designing their products with comfortable fabrics with a tinchof fashion in it.

5) Miss Classy: This is the richie rich section of the society and for them fashion means Gucci, Prada, Dolce & Gabbana. Well, neither all the brands cater them, nor they look at all. For them fashion is a tradition. For this segment, nothing is more important than maintaining class, and apparels come first in line.
