Inches above the ground, on the first floor of a ramshackle building, lives Chandni. A jovial, chubby, innocent face, shares a room on the first floor with not less than 15 girls.

She has a beautifully infectious smile.😊

The walls of the room are falling apart, but the aspirations are still intact.

She wants to be remembered as a dancer. Ambitious and shy are the characteristics that define her, every day hustling harder to tackle her inner insecurities.

It’s quite tough to match her routine. She gets up at 5 in the morning. After completing her morning ablutions, she gets to work.

The shabby looking building is nothing but an NGO, and work she does there is helping her fellows with household chores.

Then around 7 a.m., she goes to her school. Sadly, she is in 5th grade at an age of 14years. But that doesn’t shatter her pure soul, still studying diligently to master her favourite subject English.

Every day is a struggle, there is a list of things to mourn about. Without mamma and papa, she feels alone in this world. The thought of never seeing them rips apart her serene soul. It pains, but she is growing strong.

A 14-year-old has seen the hardships of life. But wrapping herself in self-pity was never an option. She is a fighter, and undeniably underprivileged.

This story can make you think, Why victimize the child?

Now she has a better life, she goes to a school, and definitely optimistic that life will surprise her with its gifts.

Victimization is not my purpose. Like her, I want you to believe in yourself, and shatter the hindrances to your growth.

What is self-doubt? Is it just another name for an excuse?

Self-doubt is the lack of confidence in our abilities, about our looks, and everything that we do. Self-doubt impedes you from venturing into new endeavours.

William Shakespeare once said, and I quote,“Our doubts are traitors, and make us lose the good we oft might win, by fearing to attempt.”

Why does it happen?

Because human is accustomed to comfort and stability. We have an aversion to change. Any kind of change in our lives instills fear and self-doubt.

Risk taking is not natural behaviour. And each of us loves the idea of being stationary.

Self-doubt and fear complement each other. Fear and anxiety to bring a change is nothing but an excuse to take risks.

We all give such excuses to ourselves every day.

Can you change? Well, an optimist will always come up with a ‘YES’.

4 Things you can do to overcome self-doubt.

1. Know thyself

A self-reflection is important to know your abilities, and the steps you can take to polish them. Here, you have to be a realist. Neither underestimate, nor overestimate your capabilities because it can lead to hopelessness. Be clear of what you want in life, and what you have to do to achieve it.

2. Keep a journal

List out the things you want to do out of your “comfort zone”. For example, it can be public speaking as most of us has stage fright, including me. So this is the best way to challenge ourselves.

It’s like a bucket list of our dreams. And you can renew the list every time you come across another challenge.

3. Never compare with the rest

You are unique in your own way. This is the line that we hear since childhood. But have you ever found something unique that no one else possesses in a whopping population of 7 billion? Hopefully, a big ‘NO’. But our circumstances definitely make us different. Not everyone had the same kind of hardships at the same time. We all have a different life and a different journey as well.

4. Be optimistic, be hopeful

Till now, this must be very clear to you. The ray of Chandni that I talked about depicts optimism and perseverance. These qualities are a prerequisite to growth. When she can have a positive attitude to the roller coaster ride of life, even with lesser resources. Why can’t we?

Conclusion

We all dream and aspire to be great, and to be remembered. But fail to take the challenges. As self-doubt and our goals act as the same poles of a magnet, always repelling each other.

Today just do one thing, tell yourself ten times “I CAN DO IT”, your dreams will flash in front of your eyes. And you will feel that very moment, that yes everything is achievable.
