Food is a very subjective thing; some people eat to live while others live to eat. Eating pattern of every individual isn’t alike. If we come across a dietician, we will understand this more clearly. The diet chart that they give to one person is different from other because everyone’s eating habits are different. If everybody could follow the same regime then the market for dietician would be destroyed but we all know how well it is flourishing in today’s world. Thus, it’s very important to understand what kind of eater we are. Categorizing is a very subjective thing and we can form our own set of list on the basis of what we think.

According to me, there are six different types of eaters –
1. Sensual eater
A person can be categorized under this head if he/she relishes each and every bite of food that they eat. It is not necessary that such kind of eater will appreciate every food that they eat. They enjoy the food, provided it is of their choice. However, if it’s of their choice then with every bite there is satisfaction mixed with happiness on their faces. If you have such traits then you are a sensual eater.

Tip: It is great to enjoy the food that we eat; however the love for it blinds the portion of food. So, we need to be mindful of the portion that we meet.

2. Stress eater

Some of us have it inbuilt in us that whenever we are stressed or are emotionally unstable then we tend to eat more. There are people who resort to sweet items and others whose appetite increases. So, if during exams a child is having more chocolates or having eight meals instead of four meals then we know that he/she is a stress eater.

Tip: By stress eating, we usually loose track of what we are eating and in what quantity. So, in such a scenario, we should note down what we eat during the day and accordingly control it.

3. Experimental eater

Experimental eater is one who likes trying different cuisines and is inquisitive to taste something different every time. They do not believe in having same type of food everyday. However, it is not necessary that they enjoy everything that they try. It is a possibility that they take pleasure in some food and vice-versa.

Tip: Experimenting is a good habit but with that we should be aware of the ingredients, hygiene, etc. of the food and the place where we eat because we don’t want to fall ill by experimenting with food.

4. Healthy eater:

Healthy eater can also be referred as nutritious eater. They are the ones who think twice before consuming something. They first study the food items in terms of calorie content, nutritious properties like protein, vitamins, etc. and then consume accordingly. One basic example of such eaters is gym trainers.

Tip: Strict healthy diet can sometimes make our stomach so delicate that if someday in an unexpected scenario we have to deviate from normal routine and eat something different then we fall ill. So in order to avoid such scenarios we should relax and eat something away from our normal routine once in a week or 10 days.

5. Critical eater

If a chef is able to impress a critical eater then it is equivalent to winning an award. Critical eaters are very peculiar about their food. In short, they want their food to be perfect, by perfect I mean that everything should be in the right proportion with optimum taste. If any proportion gets disturbed, critical eater would notice it instantly.

Tip: Same tip as healthy eater can be applied for critical eater

6. Traditional eater
Traditional eater is one who finds satisfaction in homemade food that they have been consuming since childhood. It varies from culture to culture. Homemade food for South Indians would be different variety of rice, dosa, idly, etc.; for north Indians it would be different types of chapatti, parathas, curry, etc.; for Chinese it will be noodles, momos, etc. Thus, such eaters stick to traditional eating habits and don’t like to experiment much with other cuisines. We can say they are somewhat antonyms of experimental eater.

Tip: Nothing is better than having homemade food but when we say traditional way of eating then we should make sure we actually follow it. Today, we use aluminum utensils, non-stick vessels, etc. to cook food. We fail to understand that such utensils can hamper our health. We should move towards steel vessels, mud vessels, etc. We should avoid refrigerators, microwaves, etc. Just eating traditional food isn’t enough, we should also focus on traditional ways of cooking, preserving food, etc.

According to me, these are the six broad classifications of different types of eater. It is upon our discretion whether we want to add or delete to the list mentioned above. Now, since we are aware of the types of eaters, we should read, analyze, and interpret as to which category do we fall in; thus following the tips in order to become perfect in the type of eater we are.
