Can we control someone else’s life? Can we dictate what they should do or not? Can we decide if they get to live or do they not? A number of such questions rush through my mind every time I hear about abortion. Are they correct by banning abortion? Well, human life is quite precious. And technically, it is equivalent to killing. But is it really killing if the child has not even begun to exist?

“One must always protect life”, That’s how a species goes on. That’s how civilisations thrive through existence. Consider a world where abortion is made legal. Will it be a better place or worse? Women who are not ready to conceive a child physically or emotionally will have an option to abort the unborn child. To-be parents who are financially unstable can opt for an alternative. Women who might have medical complications may avoid any such situation. “But it is equivalent to killing”. If the women who are physically unable to bear the child conceives a child and later dies due to the complications that arose with the delivery, is that not killing? Forcing someone to do something that they are not willing to do which ultimately causes their death. Is that completely fine? Doesn’t that count as killing? A family which cannot afford to raise a child due to financial difficulties conceives the baby to satisfy your morals which not only kills the child due to starvation but also takes the parents with it. But at least they didn’t kill an innocent child. Wait, the child was brought into the world where he had to face difficulties you couldn’t even imagine and die within a few weeks of his birth. Eventually, he died anyway.

The discussion on abortion has exceeded the point of debate. It has now become a moral issue. No scientific reasoning is taken into consideration. Neither are the opinions of the affected people being paid any heed.

We are free people. We decide, dictate and control our own lives. Why can’t we have a say in decisions which include our lives? The option of abortion should be a decision to be made by the parents of the unborn child. It is not necessarily the best option but it should be an option available to the everyone under certain predefined conditions. It is a choice not a compulsion! Nobody has the right to strip off someone’s control over their own bodies. Being pro-choice does not mean pro-abortion. All we ask for is giving the people an option, a choice.

“Your personal objections to abortions doesn’t give you the right to deny bodily autonomy to others”
