Recently I just finished a short pilgrimage trip and spiced it up with a trip to Ooty. I was accompanied by my family throughout the trip. We journeyed through a cab driven by a wonderful and caring Coimbatore based man. In this write-up, I'll share my experience of the trip to Ooty as mentioned and I hope I'll share you my experience of the pilgrimage trip too shortly :D.

It was 11am, the time we started off to Ooty from Guruvayur. Though it was more than 6 hours of journey we didn't feel such long. Because sleep took over us, most of the time. We lunched at Sree Annapurna Sree Gowrishankar hotel at Coimbatore, we had a traditional vegetarian meal in addition to the caring staff. That's what we expect from anywhere we travel being vegetarians. Later, we continued our journey and I woke up around 4:50 pm to find myself at Wellington( Coonoor-Ooty road). While crossing the town we saw the cantonment area and got to know that one guy from my village had been trained there for a while. By now it is just 18kms to Ooty. Some of the places are completely occupied by houses of locals while the rest was the nature, filled with innumerable trees of different heights and at times we were just surrounded by greenery. Since we were going above sea-level my body felt lighter and my earlobes tend to block the sound.

By the way, we didn't book any cottage since there were many with varying prices and our journey was not pre-planned. As suggested by the chauffeur we went to Hotel Tamil Nadu, being maintained by TTDC. It was in a pleasant environment with attentive staff. We stayed for that night in a cottage which costed us around Rs 2900 including all the taxes. We freshen up and we were off to the most awaited 'Modern Stores'. This store is famous for homemade chocolates and essential oils to treat various health problems and for wellness. We wanted to buy sweaters and jackets so as suggested by the locals we went to Rajhans, it is a basement store located in the commercial road area. The prices over there were very minimal and the auto drivers never suggest that place to tourists since they don't get commission from the store. I bought a couple of jackets and I'm very satisfied. Later, we had food at Adyar Anand Bhavan, a must-visit place to get the warmth in that chilling place. It's worth tasting Paniyarams(we say pongadalu in Telugu) over there.

At night the temperature went close to 0 degrees. We started the next day with a visit to Pykara waterfalls. And was surprised to notice that the maximum height from which the water fall is approximately 6 feet. Not that great, but don't miss if you have an extra time. On our way back, we tasted carrots which are neatly placed at the road side and they were sweet and cool. Fast forwarding, we visited boat house, Rose garden and finished the day with a visit to the botanical garden. Though we visited very few places we enjoyed a lot and that's what we always wanted. From there we started our return journey at around 5:15 pm and reached Coimbatore at 10 pm, it was late due to roads packed with vehicles and a half an hour dinner break.

As a whole, we had a solid enjoyment and thrilling experience with biting cold. Signing off with loads of love from Ooty and hoping for many more wonderful journeys.
