The biggest contributing factor to the dismal condition of the Indian Education System today is the 50% reservations to students from the SC/ST/OBC community in educational institutions. It has threatened the progress and prosperity of the nation as the education system forms the backbone of any country.

Reservation in Education is a violation of the Basic Right of a person which is 'Freedom of Choice' . It forces a deserving student to opt for an potion which is not his prior choice, only due to the Reservations in Educational Institutions for backward communities.

The only motive behind "Reservation" was to improvise the conditions of the backward castes and communities of the society . But the effects of reservation have been severe and damaging .

Hence , it is rather important to analyze the impacts of reservations on education to know what good and bad this policy has done to our country since independence.

Impacts:-

1. Division of Society

We are a secular country and equality is must for secularism to survive. It has divided the population into many castes and religions which has done no good for the nation as a whole. The quota system has made the Scheduled Castes (SC) , Scheduled Tribes(ST) and Other Backward Classes (OBC) as the primary beneficiaries of these policies under the Constitution.

2. Discourages Performers

Students who put in the best of their efforts to make it in the merit are disheartened if they fail to get an admission in a good college due to reservations. Eventually they find themselves depressed and some end up committing suicidal attempts .

3. Used For Benefits

People get fake certificates made to enjoy the benefits of reservation. Even politicians nowadays use caste as an effective tool to earn more votes. People dont even wish to workand study as they want to avail benefits of their caste. Therefore , they can never develop and prosper leaving the backward classes where they were without any improvement.

4. Migration of Merits

When good students don’t find admissions in good colleges and dont get good jobs due to reserved seats, they prefer migrating to other countries with better opportunities to perform and make a better living , totally based on their performance levels. This has forced many fertile brains to leave the country and settle abroad.

There are various other impacts of this system that have affected the lives and careers of millions of people across the country. It’s high time and this needs attention and amendment. With time the society and the mind-set of the people have also changed and to match up to the present needs we need to incorporate changes that can bring better results.

The Indian Youth is the future of the nation which makes it imperative that it is not given the crutches of reservation but is made competitive, skillful and efficient which will further make them strong, vibrant, energetic and confident, hence making them capable to take forward themselves, their families, the society and the nation as a whole.
