What Is Area 51? How A Mere Joke Turned To A Full Blown Event.

Area 51 , as known by all is an active US Air Force military installation located at Groom Lake in southern Nevada. The fact that it is not accessible to the public and is under 24 hour surveillance brings in numerous conspiracy theories and acts as food for our ever ready mystery seeking brains.

In 2013, the US government finally acknowledged the existence of Area 51.Thanks to the Freedom of Information act, the base had to release 60 declassified documents which were mainly focused on the need to develop a spy aircraft to monitor the Soviet Union. But, Incontradiction these reports mention nothing about UFO’s , little green men, squishy flying bodies, flying saucers etc. So, why is Area 51 linked with aliens then ?

Well, for starters, in July 1947, there was a crash in Roswell, New Mexico, which was of a UFO as believed by many and some even claim to have seen alien like creatures leave the craft. This was also mentioned in one my my most favorite novels by Sidney Sheldon: The Doomsday Conspiracy which has a lavish spread of facts and figures about the crash.

Also in 1989, a man named Robert Lazar claimed to be working on extraterrestrial technology inside Area 51. He also claims to have seen autopsy photographs of aliens inside the facility. Although Lazar himself was discredited, his claims have gotten our brains to develop various government conspiracy theories, most of which include extraterrestrial lives.

With a history so mysterious, you sure cannot expect today’s “hungry” youth to sit cross legged and be satisfied by the amount of information the television or the news papers have to offer. They will find a way, in fact they have.

ICYMI, a public meme page recently posted a mere joke that said “storm area51, they can’t stop all of us” has turned into a legit event and has gone viral. Something that started off as a joke, now has 600,000 alien hunters ready to ambush Area 51 and see them aliens.

This event specifies the date and the time too, everything’s planned. All the attendees are supposed to meet at Area 51 on sept 20, 3:00 am. The organizers say, “if we Naruto run, we can move faster than their bullets “here the Naruto run is in reference to the Japanese Manga- Inspired running style.

And now we have people sharing memes on how they’d save and “free them aliens”.

The US Air Force has offered a word of caution to all the enthusiasts who have said that they would be attending the Facebook event. The base has made their discouragement to enter the area very clear and despite the warning, people are still posting memes and theorizing the best way to break in the top secret facility on the event page.

Though this September event is most certainly a joke but I cannot help but point to the fact that this comes only a few weeks after some of the US senators were briefed about the reported encounters between the Us Navy and an unidentified aircraft. A UFO? Another conspiracy ?
