Literature Or Cinema: Which Has Greater Impact On Our Lives?

Literature and cinema are the two motivating forces that rule our lives. We are very much influenced by literature and cinema.We live our lives according to whatever we are able to grab from them. They hold the importance and create visions for us. We often fantasised about certain things after reading or watching them.They gave us the path to move on and become the source of inspiration. They both help us to expand our vision.

Literature:Literature runs in roots of many people. It is something which helps people to see world from a new perspective. We get to know and learn about many new things and many other different concepts such as feminism, gender politics, discrimination etc. Literature is something which plays very crucial part.There are so many different periods and ages in literature. Literature is very vast and one can know the information abouthow things changed over a period of time and how different things came into existence. Literature taught us man life lessons and we should implement them in our life.Apart from that books also our man’s best friends. Many people love to read books. Some stories are adapted into movies and influence the lives of director too. People who are booklovers sometimes judge movies and never get satisfaction from the movies. Sometimes they feel that movies create distort images in the movie. They are not able to justify the books.For example- the Notebook by Nicholas sparks is one of the bestselling novels but the movie didn’t receive much appreciation etc

Cinema: While if we look at cinema, then it is able to each mass. We are all so into these Bollywood and Hollywood movies that we extract philosophies from that. Cinema is something which projects, visualised things in front of the audience.People can learn various things through images and graphics.People are able to relate to them and are able to get attached to them. Many stories kept hidden. Cinema helps them to bring in front of society. For example- a movie is going to be made on the story of Lakshmi who is an acid attack survivor.Similarly , many historic events are being filmed so that people could acknowledge the historic events and can know the unaware stories for example- Padmavat , Bajirao Mastani, Jodha Akbar etc. Not all people read novels then cinema act as a greater role in their lives. it has a greater hold on people which influences the society in some way.

But well, this is a never ending debate which is not going to have any conclusion. I hold the opinion that neither literature nor cinema has an edge over another.Being a literature student and at the same time movie lover , I would say that they both go hand in hand.Literature and cinema both are interdependent on each other. Where cinema needs literature for its content similarly literature needs cinema to reach a wider audience. They both share a relationship and build together towards growth. Literature and cinema both imitate society as a well as influence the society. They have the essence of their own.
