Trees are the support system of our lives. Trees are bestowed as a boon to mankind and have a very significant role in our lives economically, environmentally and industrially. They sustain human life through direct and indirect gains by providing a wide range of products for better survival and prosperity. However , today , due to inequitable distribution of wealth and power, population growth and overpopulation, urbanisation and globalisation are resulting in chopping off the trees at a faster pace and the forests are being swiped away at an alarming rate. This is known as Deforestation.

Forests are of great importance in our lives. To survive, we need to breathe fresh air and oxygen, are is provided by trees. They also help to maintain equilibrium and balance in the environment. The removal of trees without sufficient planting of the new trees has adversely affected our environment. Deforestation has resulted in damage to habitat, biodiversity and also extinction of thousands of species of animals. This altogether has also contributed to global warming.

Effects of deforestation are known to us from a tender age.Present scenario and past can be compared through fossil records. Previously, half of our Earth was covered with dense forests that sheltered millions of species. Today, half of them have extincted, and the rest are endangered. When a particular forest is exhausted, i.e. when man itself cuts down trees for his own purpose, and there are no more resources left to consume, man abandons the place and migrates to another place for sustainable resources. With the increase of automobiles on roads, it becomes difficult to walk. The government, takes initiative to cut huge trees that surrounds highways in order to "broader" the roads. Many countries like Malaysia, Bangladesh have lost large areas of rainforests due to urbanisation.

The forests are being destroyed at an accelerating pace tracking the rapid pace of human population and growth. With more population, there is more demand of natural resources. Thus population is also a great factor for deforestation. It is now w critical to prevent deforestation by various means. The benefits of having trees in our surroundings are not unknown to us. Therefore it's our responsibility protect them. Deforestation is avoidable by planting huge number of trees. Recycling of products can help in conversation of the forests. More consumption of recycled products should to be used to avoid cutting of trees. We cannot imagine Earth without greens. Stopping deforestation should be our motto and we all should be actively taking part in encouraging others to preserve our forests and plant new trees.
