Alexander the great remarked about India "really Selukus, what a strange country this is". Not only strange but ironical in every aspect. Considering the present scenario of the water ecosystem in India one can only say that the best 'ecosystem irony' or 'diversity' as you look upon it, is seen.

On one hand the monsoon rain is costing lives and destroying homes displacing lakhs from their native place in the north eastern states. While on the other hand the NCR and southern cities like Bengaluru and Chennai are taking several measures to conserve water and harvest the rainwater as well. According to reports, 21 cities in India is supposed to run out of water by 2020. At this stage when reports are giving dire warnings about the country's water security, people in the north eastern states of the same are setting up relief camps to save people drowned in water. This brings us to look at a greater issue and understand that the climate is changing. Our country because of its biogeography has to adapt variation in the policies to cope up with the climatic changes. The country's economy is dependent on agriculture which inturn is dependent on monsoon. The climatic changes is affecting the monsoon increasing its unevenly distribution over the country. The examples of water wreaking havocs are clear from the devastation of floods in north east and droughts in south. Interestingly there is an abnormal rise in sea level in the southern states which did catch the attention of the concerned authorities. The irony also lies in the fact that water taps are seen flowing on streets for hours concerning none. While at the same time in some part of the country people are seen standing in hours long line to have a few buckets of water. "Save environment save life"- don't just preach but we to practice this as well. Since nursery classes we have been learning about conservation of resources and saving our environment. But how many of us did actually help to save the environment. However, we should realise that it's high time to do our bit to save our environment for our future generations, because #climatechangeisforreal.
