Farrukhabad was named after Nawab Farrukhsiyar. Farrukhsiyar was the son ofAzim-ush-Shan(the second son of emperorBahadur Shah I) and Sahiba Nizwan. The town ofFarrukhnagarinGurgaon district, 32 kilometres (20min) south ofDelhi, was also named after him. He also made Sheesh Mahal and Jama Masjid in Farrukhnagar. Surprizingly, Farrukhsiyar never came to visit the city.
Now knowing the geographical status, the Faruukhabad district, made up of Fatehgarh,Kaimganj,Kampil,Shamshabad and Kamalganj; is situated betweenLat. 26° 46' N & 27° 43' N and Long. 79° 7' E & 80° 2' E. The district is bounded byBadaunandShahjahanpuron the north,Hardoi Districton the east,Kannauj Districton the south, andEtahandMainpuridistricts on the west.TheGanga RiverandRamganga Riverare located to the east and theKali Riverto the south.
The city is famous for many things , be it zardozi , hastashilp kala , the sugarcane and potato production , the papdi chat etc.
The very famous Mela Shri Ramnagariya,which witesses a large crowd of saints and devotees on the banks ofriver Ganga or The Jaharvir Goga ji Maharaj Mela of the Valmiki community are all famous devotional attractions of the city.
Along with this; Sankisa- a famous Buddhist pilgrimage centre, Neem karoli dham, Pandav mandir, Kampil are all places of religious intrest in the city.
The city is also marks the birth of many prominent personalities like Mahadevi Verma, Dr. Zakir Hussain- the third president of India, Khurshid Alam Khan- A prominent face od Congress, Salman Khurshid, Renu Khator- President of Houston University
The city is a training center to three army regiments-The Rajput Regiment, Jaat Regiment and The Sikh Li Regiment which was establiished back in the 1870's. The town besides the holy river Ganga still preseves the ganga-jamuni tehjeeb.
With so many historical monuments it needs to be developed into a heritage town.
