At an intersection of two roads a man was confused about which way should he take. "Which route should I take?", said the man. "Where do you want to go?", the old man asked. "I don't know", the man replied. So the old man told him to take any route he wanted and the route will take him somewhere. If a man knew his destination he could have easily figured out the route to go. So the first and foremost thing is needed in our life is nothing but to set goals. Likewise, in life we should know our destination, our goal. Life without goal or targets have no meaning. Setting a goal is something that you need to practice in order to get it right. Goal setting is very important in life. It makes you realize about your skills. It puts you at a better place. Not only setting a goal but also working for it is very important in life. Generally, goals are categorized as either long-term or short-term.Long-term goals consist of plans you make for your future, typically over a year down the road. These typically consist of family, lifestyle, career, and retirement goals. Long-term goals are achieved over time as a person completes the stages of their life. People set long-term goals for themselves by envisioning what they want to be doing and where they want to be five to twenty years from the present. Then they use short-term goals to get there.

Short term goals

Short-term goalsare ones that a person will achieve in the near future, typically in less than one year. Short-term goals are often, but not always, steppingstones on the way to achieving long-term goals. These types of goals are considered enabling goals because accomplishment of these goals will “enable” you to achieve an even greater goal.

Setting Goals

Specific

You should be specific about your goals. You should know what you are supposed to do. You should know how much time will it take to achieve your goal and most importantly your goal should be fixed.

Achievable

You need to set realistic goals rather than living in the world of fantasies. It is important to have achieveable goal to keep the track of your work for it.

Relevant

This step is about making sure that your goal matters to you, and that it also aligns with other relevant goals. We all need support and assistance in achieving our goals, but it's important to retain control over them.

Time bound

Goals need to have a target date and it needs to be completed within the date. A deadline is required to focus on your goals.
