Insomnia is a sleeping disorder in which you had difficulty falling asleep and suffer constant restlessness.

Lack of sleep can further induce many health problems and literally give you a permanent

PMS. It can be really irritating. I had this problem now from past five years and it is like any other horror story.

Well, I blame it all on the prostaglandins which are responsible for wake up sleep cycle in humans. Sometimes hormonal imbalances in your body can really suck.

But there are other reasons for insomnia as well which are anxiety, depression, lack of physical exercise or certain medications.

The sleep is controlled by circadian rhythm of the body which is also known as master biological clock. As the day sets melatonin is released in the body by the pineal gland which help induce sleep.

But here we would focus on ways which will calm your senses and help induce sleep.

Well, sometimes these methods will help get rid to restlessness and soothe our mind if you are still not able to sleep.

But they are still worth a shot as they will ensure a good mental health and stability

Physical work

Believe it or not this method always works. Or at least it worked for me.

The more your body gets tired more are the chances of falling asleep.

Exercise also can help you increase the duration of your nightly rest.

Basically sleep act as anti-anxiety drugs which ease your mind and helps it to fall asleep.

Studies suggest that aerobic exercise may be particularly effective in helping reduce insomnia symptoms.

Lighting scented candles and using essential oils

Scents help your mind go relax. They are a part of ancient aromatherapy that are known for their mind calming relaxes.

Lighting a candle or two before bed can really help you drift off more quickly.

Lavender is great to use if you suffer from anxiety as it’s believed to calm you down and stop your heart (and mind!) from racing. It works to actively slow down the nervous system, making it easier to relax.

Other scents that can help you to fall asleep are rose, bergamot, mandarin, neroli, jasmine, chamomile and sandalwood.

Slipping on comfy clothes

Wear satin nightwear before sleep as the more your body is feeling relaxed the more your mind tends to relax. So it helps in falling asleep.

Sipping on chamomile tea

Chamomile tea has been used as a relaxation aid for centuries, but it’s more than just a folk remedy.

The stuff acts as a mild sedative, helping to calm the nerves, reduce anxiety, and ease insomnia. And don’t be afraid to make a strong brew. Some experts recommend using two or three tea bags to get the full, sleep-promoting effect.

Sunlight

One way to keep everything on schedule is by flooding your body with light as soon as you get out of bed, which sends a clear message to your body that it’s time to wake up. Try opening your blinds, exercising outside, or even going sans sunglasses on your way to work.

And throughout the day, keep the natural light flowing. Sit near a window at work, or hang out outside during your lunch break.

As it will keep your circadian rhythm in check.

Other things to keep in mind:

  • Try to keep stress at bay

  • Yoga and meditation therapies help

  • Take good diet

  • Choose comfortable mattress

  • Try to sleep early in a silent and dark environment
