Mankind is known for its tryst with destiny. In this contemporary rostrum, we all are in a trail towards a better future. In search of the Midas touch, it’s a normal tendency to move out and settle in places which offer a more dynamic slide. One of its illustrations in International world is the extensive migration pattern from under-developed & developing countries to developed nations. And many even chose to taxi around illegally without valid permits. This is known as illegal migration.
Illegal Immigration refers to migration of people from their home country to another country due to various socio-economic factors prevalent in their home country. The purpose behind is financial and social wellbeing. While violating the immigration laws of the country they are moving to in certain ways so that the government is forced to take severe actions against them and enact stringent law to prevent future immigration. The general observation brings forth the fact that people emigrate from poorer nation to richer nations and usually prefer their neighboring country. A majority of this immigrated group does not possess adequate skills and thus are forced to enter the labor market to be employed. Certain researches show that immigration has a positive effect for the native population. This is not the case in India as the native labormarket is already very large and unemployment is high and hence further addition of individuals only
leads to mass unemployment and poverty.
The Ministry Of State, Home Affairs submitted a statement to the parliament on July 14, 2004 that the estimated number of Bangladeshi immigrants in India was around 1.2 crores, out of which 50 lakhs were in Assam.
There are estimated 50,000-100,000 Burmese Chin immigrants residing in India, mostly in the Indian state of Mizoram and a small number is found in Delhi.
India has thousands of people from Pakistan, living illegally, according to one figure from 2009, it was above 7,700.
By 2009, India had over 13,000 illegal immigrants from Afghanistan.
The 16% illegal population further plunges the GDP per capita of Assam down in the similar range
In search of better jobs
Overpopulation in home country
Reunion with family
Displacement of agricultural or unskilled workers due to globalization
Poverty
Refugees from wars and conflict
Deprivation of citizenship
Rohingyaas from Myanmar due to domestic conflict between Buddhists and Muslims (estimated to be around 40,000)
Refugees from Pakistan during partition in 1947. (Influx of 7.249 million people)
All of these ordeals can be brought to a standstill with efforts from both the institutional and public level.Governmental measures to keep macro-economic variables in check such as overpopulation and poverty can clear out the mirage till a great extent. Lenient immigration policy for people seeking family reunions will uproot the existing coyote network. Immediate deportation channels for offenders will account credibility to all governmental initiatives. Also, in accordance with the present trends of war-torn areas, refraining from wars or suppressions while promoting secular ideas to reduce religion or race based conflicts will be a masterstroke. At the end it all deduces down to “NOT BUILDING A WALL”.
