About Me

Myself, Shyamanta Moni Borah, a permanent resident of Guwahati and I am currently residing in Guwahati. I have done my 10+2 education from Army School Narangi and a student of 2004 batch. I got into Assam Engineering College in the same year in Mechanical Engineering but withdrew my admission because I wanted to get admission in an NIT. In 2004, I took a year drop and then appeared for AIEEE in 2005 and finally cleared it and got successfully admitted in NIT Silchar, Electrical Engineering Batch. Via college placements, I got placed in Tata Power. I was initially in induction training program and then I was posted in Bhira which is 120kms away from Mumbai, is a 315 MW Hydroelectric power plant. I looked after power plant operations, load scheduling and maintenance and overhaul scheduling in the plant. Apart from core generation and maintenance activities, I looked after CSR activities in Bhira division where I was involved in a small Capex project. I was involved in the entire electrification of a technical training service institute in Male Village. After almost 22 months of service in Tata Power, due to some personal problems, I decided to switch from Core generation sector to a T&D solutions sector which mainly dealt in turnkey EPC projects. I was about to join the project execution department but initially I was put in Sales. I started by identifying the market and what new projects were on line. I was mainly assigned to look after substation packages (new as well as extensions) for central utilities as well as state utilities. I started interacting with clients such as NTPC, Power Grid and UPRVUNL for upcoming tenders. However, after some time I got involved in the bidding phase of Power Grid Bareilly and Lucknow Projects. Apart from that, I was looking after small extension projects of central utilities and state utilities. I had to study contractual documents, interact with solution experts as well as vendors and prepare BOQ accordingly to bid for projects. After that, I was posted in a project called Power Grid Bina where I was solely involved in Jaypee Bay Extension site works as well as a project called UPRVUNL Parichha. I was posted there for 4 months and successfully commissioned 2 bays. I was then involved in the Power Grid Bareilly and Lucknow Project Substation which both consisted of a new as well as an extension package. I devoted my entire time in this package from client interaction, project starting and execution. However, I wanted to get back to Sales but there were different constraints. I wanted to do my MBA at the same time but due to several constraints and other factors, I decided to take a break and prepare for exams. Since, due to my extreme hectic schedule, I couldn’t pursue both study and work at the same time. I knew it was a very risky decision but still, I decided to take it. From Jan 2014-Jun 2015, I didn’t have a job but finally after preparations and scoring an “Ok” score in CAT, I was somehow able to get into a pretty decent college in Mumbai, K.J.Somaiya Institute Of Management Studies & Research. I did my MBA in marketing and completed my graduation in 2017. I wanted to get into a company called RPG but unfortunately, I got eliminated in the 2nd round of GD. I was eyeing this company from a long time when I heard, it would come to our campus but I couldn’t convert it. No other company related to my field visited our campus. So, chances to get into companies of my field started to look blur. Then, I sat for an interview for a company called Huhtamaki-PPL Limited. It is a completely different company for me as it is into flexible packaging business and mainly supports FMCG companies with unilever being our biggest account. I am currently posted in Guwahati plant and looking after 2 major P&L accounts of Godrej Consumer Products and Cavin Kare. Apart from client servicing, as I am in the plant, I look some aspects of operations as well as I have started exploring other possibilities of finding business opportunities as a lot of Pharma, food and FMCG companies are coming in North-East and me being a localite gives me an advantage mainly because of the language and cultural recognition. I have tried to go to the renewables energy domain, but due to some or other reason, I have not been able to get any opportunity till now. However, I am still looking out chances still now to go back and jump to my own sector specifically in the business development domain. On July’ 2018, I was interviewed for Sterlite Power Transmission Limited for the role of Key Account Manager for State Transmission Utilities. I was looking after entire North Eastern Region along with Sikkim. My main role was product sales through projects & new client development . My main role was to involve tendering, technical as well as SCM team in order to create a winning strategy for our product. But, sooner I found that there were a lot of loopholes within the organisation and facilitating government officials was in the culture of the organisation from top to bottom. Most of the commitments had to be done at our level with high government officials as well as politicians which was not my game at all. And as I was not comfortable with this, there were hiccups between me and the senior management stating that due to my non co-operating behaviour, they would lose the North-Eastern market to competitors. I tries to change divisions but unfortunately my seniors didn’t allow and neither our people team listened to me. So, I decided to part away from the organisation and on Feb’4th 2019, I left my last organisation. Currently, I am not working anywhere but am actively looking for a role and preferably looking to work in a startup (digital marketing. ads). I am willing to relocate within India as well as abroad. To be engaged, I am currently pursuing digital marketing courses but as I have education loan and a minimum amount of savings, I need to start freelance and get more clients and projects. I have a lot of interest in content writing and slowly I am developing an interest towards graphics and logo designing via GIMP and Inkscape.
