Everyone understands that promotion of a product is one of the most important steps in the whole production to distribution process. Promotion is a way in which you inform the public about the functions of your product and attract them so that there is maximum sale. Advertisements are one such means of promotions.

There are several products that have similar functions but what determines the sales of that product is the way in which the functions are displayed in the advertisements. Ad agencies need creative teams to come up with an innovative idea for the advertisements. There are so many times where we thought that a particular advertisement doesn’t make sense as it doesn’t relate to the product that it is supposed to promote.

Similarly, there have been times when advertisements brought a smile on our faces and even giggles, due to the innovative ideas that were used in promotions. Here’s a list of five such advertisements.

1. Hutch

Who doesn’t remember the famous pug that is till now called the “Hutch dog”. The advertisement of Hutch was very well planned and portrayed. It includes a young boy who is followed everywhere by his pug. The dog doesn’t leave his side anytime, no matter if he’s going to the playground, to pee, to the barber shop, or anywhere else. This scene is then followed by the catch phrase of the product , “Wherever you go, our network follows”. Though Hutch became Vodafone later, the theme song of the ad “You and I, in this beautiful world” (I know you sang it) became pretty famous.

2. Centre fruit.

You are lying, if you didn’t get the tagline “Kaisi jeeb laplapayi” in your mind after reading that heading. Centre fruit has had so many creative and funny advertisements. Though most of them do not make sense, it surely made us laugh whenever the ad came on the tv screen. My all time favourite advertisement is the “Jugalbandi” between the Tablaist and the classical singer. Another ad of centre fruit, shows the selection of a waiter in a South Indian hotel on the basis of how fast he can read out the items on the menu. The old but gold centre fruit advertisement, however, is that of the village ATM.

3. Imperial Blue.

This whisky brand is famously promoted as music CDs with the most relatable advertisements and the famous tagline “Men will be Men”. There are a series of advertisements about how men behave in the presence of a woman. There are advertisements of a man (played by Kartik Aaryan) trying to show off a Benz which is not his, in front of some girls; an advertisement where two men who insist on paying the bill in the presence of the woman, start telling each other to pay the bill once the lady leaves. My all time favourite is the advertisement with two men and a lady (played by Disha Patani) in a lift. The men hold their breath till the lady is in the lift and after she leaves, they breathe out their pot sized bellies. Everyone knows the song, “Pyar ki raah me, chalna seekh. Ishq ki aag me, jalnaaaa seekh”

4. Big Babool

Though this chewing gum is seen very rare now a days, the advertisement stopped coming all together. Even though it had a series of very innovative advertisements, my favourite remains the animated bird one. This animated advertisement includes a mother bird who adopts a baby tortoise along with her own hatchlings. When the time to fly for the first time comes, the tortoise decides to fly too. The birds panic because they know he cannot fly. (One of the birds even says “Mummy bhaiya se kahdijiye vo adopted hai”).However at the end, the tortoise manages to fly using the bubble that he makes with Babool. Silly, but very creative.

5. Happydent white.

If you smiled as soon as you saw the name, you know which ad I am talking about. This ad tops this list as the most innovative advertisement of all times. Popularly known as the “City light” ad or the “Palace” ad, this involves a man who misses his transport to reach the palace but finally reaches the palace just in time to be the main bulb of the chandelier in the dining hall. The message is that Happydent white makes your teeth sparkle to an extent to which your teeth will start emitting light. The other servants in the palace are also shown as light bulbs in some or the other way. As a corridor light, the car headlamps (headlights), wedding decorative lights and even as street light (with moths buzzing near the teeth).

Though there are a lot of advertisements nowadays, these five will always be remembered as the best. Don’t you agree?
