Brain drain, also known as a human capital flight, is migration of individuals. Brain Drain is the emigration of highly trained or intelligent people from a particular country. Brain drain is happening at an alarming rate, in the last decade. Due to brain drain, countries and industries lose a core portion of valuable individuals. It describes the departure of groups of doctors, professionals, scientists or engineers. When these people leave, supply of that profession and expertise is lost and the country’s economy is harmed.

Organizational and industrial brain drain takes place due to inability of companies and industries to keep up with technological and societal changes. The factors like political instability, poor quality of life, limited access to health care, and a shortage of economic opportunity, prompt skilled and talented workers to leave their countries to go to places where they are offered with better opportunities.

Reasons for brain drain in India

  • Unemployment in India is a serious social issue.Millions of professionals are graduating every year in India and only few are able to get a job and others remain unemployed. Corruption and Government are destroying most of the finest talents of our country.

  • For entrepreneur, it is challenging to work in India as the economic conditions here are not very good. Talented entrepreneur does not want to leave our nation, but policies drag them out.

  • In India, there is no value of talent, rich becomes richer and poor becomes poorer. In India, it is very difficult to get good job without any recommendation. Talented people can become more successful in foreign countries.

  • The population of India is 1.2 billion and granting job to the whole of the youth is impossible. Jobs opportunities that can be provided are difficult to match the growing population, so large number of graduates remain unemployed in India.

  • The lifestyle of foreign countries is better than the lifestyle of India. In foreign countries, there is availability of new and advanced technology. Difference between US Dollar and Indian Rupee is very high. So, people can earn more in foreign countries.

Brain drain is a challenge for a developing country like India, so, steps should be taken to reduce brain drain and to retain the youth in India. It will help to increase the economic conditions and would bring stability in inflation.
