WHAT IS LITERACY?

  • Ya, literacy starts from childhood. When child start speaking, her / his literacy journey starts. The family, teachers, neighbors are all the components which helps in the journey.

LITERACY RATE IN INDIA

  • The overall literacy rate within the country have gone up to 74.4%, however the drop in the illiteracy rate has not matched the rise in population.

  • The most literate state in India is Kerala. It have 93.91% literacy.

  • The least literate state in India is Bihar. It is with a literacy of 63.82%.

IMPORTANCE OF LITERACY

  • The importance of literacy can be stated at two levels- National and Individual.

  • Literacy is important to economic development as well as individual and community well-being.

  • Literacy is a crucial start line that brings awareness in people to work towards an improved living.
