Today we live in the era of democracy, a form of Government where it is the people who elect their representatives to run the state. Democracy has been seen as a stable form of governance. The election season has arrived in our country and the political parties, it's leaders are in a run to catch their voters but what about the voters? Is the population fulfilling its duty?

18 years is the age which the constitution of India has justified to enable a citizen to cast a vote. A citizen becomes a voter once he casts his valuable vote. But does he? People blame political parties, it's leaders for not fulfilling the demands and not working up to the mark . Certainly it is their right to demand an answer to the political leaders but only when they have given their vote. A good sum of people stay back at their home and choose not to vote and then they expect that things would change, their surroundings would change. They expect their life to improve, the country to improve. How is this possible?

If a person gives his vote to a political party, it wins and it forms a government but doesn't work. The person then has the right to feel angry and dissatisfied. But if he doesn't go to vote itself then how come he lands up blaming anyone? It's well within your rights to vote and so do exercise the same. If people perceive the voting day as a holiday to sit back at home, relax themselves or go on an outing, then they should not expect that a proper government would be formed and the country would prosper.

A complete picture shows up only when every individual votes. The entire cross section of people need to vote and increase the percentage of voting. Unless the voting percent increases, exact picture of what the country demands won't come up. Voters also have the option of NOTA i.e none of the above. If a voter is unhappy with any of the manifesto of political parties or even with independents then he has the option to go with NOTA. By doing this, not only does he exercise his duty to vote but also sends a message to all the leaders and their parties to take up the value of citizens' voteseriously.

Choosing whom to vote is a personal decision based on one's own experiences and likings. But staying at home considering the day as an off from offices is certainly a disaster. Do cast your vote by being a sensible, responsible citizen. Voting is not just your duty but also your responsibility.
