Ritual: A Mother Daughter Story

Geeta was 8 ,when she was sent to a hostel in Dehradun to pursue her studies. Geeta was a bubbly girl and had a lot of friends . She wasn’t happy with the idea of going to the hostel. She told her mom that please don’t let me go. But her mother said “ You have to learn to become independent my child’’. Geeta was upset and she didn’t meet her mom before leaving for the hostel.

Years later when Geeta returned back home after completing her studies she was a different person now. She wasn’t bubbly anymore . Her mother asked her “what should I cook for you today”? She said to her mother “you relax, I will cook for you today’’. Geeta prepared delicious chicken cury for her mother and when her mother tasted it , she was the happiest.

Her mom wanted to her to get settled so she decided to get Geeta married. Geeta got married but somehow the marriage didn’t work well and Geeta got divorced . The day when Geeta returned to her mothers place , She asked her mother that why did she send her to a hostel insuch an early age. Her mother said” I am sorry my child for keeping you away from me . After your father died , I was left all alone but you were there. I wanted to give you the best education so that I can prepare you to face all the difficult situations in your life. After your father ,my life had become really hard. I worked day and night so that I could pay your fees”.

Suddenly Geeta gota call . It was from a big firm offering her job with a great salary package. Geeta told her mom ,” Mom pack your bags, we are going to Europe”. Her mother was shocked listening to this and asked Geeta what are you saying dear? She said” yes mom, Its time for us to start a new life now’’. And there were tears in her mothers eyes that her little Geeta had grown so old.
