Hunger is a complex problem, exacerbated by financial pressures, volatile commodity prices, natural diseases and civil war. Malnutrition and hunger are at their peak. It's time that this problem is looked upon with great concern and needful steps are taken in the same direction.

One quarter of all food in the world is lost each year, owing to inefficient harvesting, inadequate storage and wastage in kitchen. Only if half the waste were saved, the world could feed an extra billion people and make hunger, a yesterday's problem.

Of course there has been a remarkable progress in this field over time. Over the last 25 years, the world has fed an extra two billion people and this developing world as a whole has halved it hunger rate. However the challenge is to sustain this process of growth.

Studies tell that by 2050, demand for food will get nearly doubled of what it is today. One reason for this is that by then, nearly two billion people will be added to the population. Another reason may be the growing appetite of new middle class group.

A research on food security shows that there are smart ways to feed many more on the planet. You all must be aware of the campaigns against wasting food, from time to time. Therefore let's discuss about some other solutions.

In this rich world the focus is on food wasted by the consumer. Do you know more than half of the losses take place in the kitchens (basically because we can afford it).

For instance, in Britain the greatest waste is in salads, vegetables and fruits. Rich people waste more food because they have the mentality to buy some extra "Just to be on the safer side."

On the contrary, world's hungry and poor wastes minimum food, simply because he cannot afford to.

Main Problem

The main issue behind everything that you read above is "Lack of Infrastructure". Due to improper connectivity of roads and transport facilities, farmers are not able to send the grains to the market on time. Also they do not get fertilizers on time which leads to wastage and depreciation. If the homes would have better refrigerators, less food will be wasted in kitchens too.

Also it is important that focus should be on "how to produce more rather than how to save more."

Reports state that if infrastructure structure is worked upon, by 2050, 57 million people would no longer be at a risk of hunger. Therefore let's take a step, stop wasting food and contribute our bit to the world.
